if it was a smaller mat hooked over a full size-one which also had a bag stuffed inside then it could feasibly dislodge on the walk out without being noticed.  Probably just think to yourself that you don't actually feel that tired after all, until you get to the car and realise.  By which time you might just have no option but to leave it behind and hope to get it back somehow.
