Yorkshire grit wet weather venues?
August 21, 2016, 09:13:00 am
Had been planning to head to Almscliff followed by Caley this Thursday/Friday but weather looking iffy. Anyone have any good recommendations for wet weather bouldering on Yorkshire Grit? Otherwise I'm guessing my best bet is Stoney, Rubicon and New Mill Tor in the Peak.

I'm in Sheffield for work so the Peak is closer but had wanted to get up to Yorkshire as I've not made it this year.

Any recommendations?...

Woodhouse Scar has bouldering under roofs that can stay dry in anything but driving rain. Maybe not a first choice venue for most but with the parking a minute from the problems and 10 minutes from the M62, it can save a day. Good year round as its sunny at a surprising low altitude but tree shaded in the summer. Easily combined with West Vale (Greetland Quarry) which is also good on showery days.

Thanks. I might take a look. Read a Ukc thread on this place which I think you also commented on. Helpful, cheers.

Found a vid too.

Fwiw, I think what climbing there might be at Woodhouse that stays dry in a downpour will be pretty disappointing. If it's showery then Almscliff is your best bet as it dries rapidly.
If it's really persistent rain I'd be tempted to go to one of the proper perma dry spots in the Peak.

Cheers guys, forecast has gone from iffy to downpour.

Making a fairly drastic change of plan.

It's not raining down in Clodgy and the Culm. An excuse to try out the Javu guides.
