Removing graffiti from a boulder?
August 03, 2016, 04:56:28 pm
Anyone have any advice on how to go about removing graffiti from a boulder (granite)? I saw mention somewhere of oven cleaner. Will test whatever I plan to use before I cover a boulder in it.
Thanks

Not sure, but wherever they used at Dumby seemed quite effective and even left some friction on the freshly uncovered holds. Maybe contact John Watson?

dumby was sandblasted by the council. OK for basalt but could see it trashing softer rock types.

I think the old graffiti at Burbage South (?) was sandblasted (carefully?) too?

Slightly off topic/related. Was up at Rowter a bit back and the roof of Quine had a bunch of graffiti on it, a little rude (Doylo sucks cock or something like that) would be nice to get it removed (this may have been mentioned elsewhere, although not seen it...)

Elephant snot has worked well in the past for jobs i've heard of. I would imagine you can get similar products in the UK.

If you look at LCC's clean up on things like Tiny (great 8A) it was barely recognisable before and now its really clean. It needs to soak in then be scrubbed or pressure washed off depending on the rock and proximity to a road.
