September 05, 2016, 08:58:10 am
Sorry for not searching, sure it's in loads of old threads, but I'm en route and searching on tapatalk is no fun.
Anyway what's the beta with motorway sticker things in Switzerland? (will be crossing from France at basel)
Cheers for any info

You need one if you're intending to drive on the swiss motorways. The vignette itself is about 35 swiss francs. Fine if caught without one is about £250 or so.

If you're only intending to drive on normal roads then you don't need to get one. You can buy them at most main manned border crossing points, especially if there is a motorway nearby. Garages etc also sell em.

Note: swiss roadsigns for motorway routes are green, and non-motorway routes are blue, i.e. the opposite of the UK.

Sweet, cheers dave. I'm guessing Basel to magic would be a bit of a ball ache avoiding the motorways?

We crossed at Basel and bought a sticker there at the manned border crossing as mentioned.

I pre purchased one a few years ago online thinking to be well prepared. We Bought one the following year at the border (somewhere near Mulhouse) towards Basel and it was oddly cheaper than buying it online.

Did a trip through Europe a few years back and went from Chamonix through to magic wood without the motorways and it was fine, all the non-motorway roads were pretty big. That being said we were in no rush and took a leisurely few days through.

Basel [border] to Magic Wood via motorway: 2.5 hours
Basel [border] to Magic Wood without using motorways: 5.5 hours

Make your choice!

Not sure what the FA to GBP rate is like, but 40 CHF is ~30 GBP.
