Options for December
September 12, 2016, 01:29:00 pm
Going to have the best part of 4 weeks off and looking for ideas of where to go.. also a fairly high chance I'll be on my own so somewhere easy to pick partners up would be ideal.

Happy to travel any distance.
Long routes sport or trad preferred.

Been to Thailand so after other alternatives.
Tempted with driving to Spain and dossing around the usual spots but as these can be done for a week I was after some further afield suggestions :)

Southern US?  NM/Arizona/Texas/SoCal. Usually folk around at the honeypots like J Tree, and getting about and living is fairly cheap, plus good online network for hooking up. Plus language isn't (much of) a barrier.

Yes. I should read the OP more carefully... though I could have been mistaken for this being a bouldering forum :p

Yeah, because no one on here climbs routes ever.

Not against bouldering but my logic is there is some hard to beat bouldering on my doorstep.. If im going that far it might as well be for something I can't do here!
Would also consider dosing around here doing worn on the house and making the most of the grit!

Spot on I'll get researching.

I would love to go to any of these it just looks a bit like the wrong time of year or 0 chance of finding partners (Unless anyone wants to tell me different!:
Yangshuo, China
Waterval Boven, South Africa
Aus / NZ / Taz
(Back to) Tafraoute or Tagia, Morocco

I'll be in Aus for December. Not supposed to be prime but still climbable, in shade / morning / evening. Have a wedding start of November and new years eve in the area so made sense logistically.
If you decide to go and need a partner let me know. Happy to do trad/sport/boulder. Bouldering 7B+ish atm, but weak on endurance :)

Boven would be a good choice, but not sure you would want a full 4 weeks in one place? http://www.tranquilitas.com/ would be a good place to hang out and in the December holidays there will be a steady flow of people passing through. Buuuuut.. It will be hot! And humid. If you are only planning on mid grade climbs you might be OK, but you will probably have to do very early mornings and then wait until the sun goes over to climb in the afternoons as if you are carless you will be limited to the Wonderland Area crags, plus I think security is a bit dodge at the other crags some of the time.

Todra in Morocco could be interesting if you've already explored other areas? Spent xmas and new years there a few years ago. Lovely conditions, quiet, and ok to good climbing.

Maybe Habrich could weigh in re Oman and other such areas?
