Decent cheap wall mount
July 01, 2016, 01:35:06 pm
Just got the new road steed an am looking for a decent cheap (under 30 quid) wall mount to store it on the wall in the study. I'll be fixing into plasterboard if that's a consideration. Any fackin suggestions?

You are better off finding a rafter in the ceiling right next to the wall and hanging it off that, rather than  trying to find a baton in the plasterboard. I got a load of cheap plastic coated ones off Chain reaction and put them in the roof of our garage to hang all the bikes, surfborads etc off. Drill a small pilot hole first to stop wood from cracking.

Looks like their website is down though.

Or maybe not.

These can go in either wall or ceiling, but you would need to  avoid just going into plasterboard if it's a wall, no way it will support a bike.

Are you sure about. We got a mirror hanging off plasterboard fittings and I reckon it weighs more than my bike.

I think it weights around 8.5kg...

Plasterboard specific plugs might aid too non?

It's a spread load though, and it's up against the wall so little torque applied by the weight on the plaster, unlike a hook.

I personally think it's easier / safer to find a rafter in the roof and just hang it off that.

Lighter bike would be better. I think you can go down to 6.45kg under UCI rules.

If you don't mind a wheel touching the floor, I've heard good things about the Clug Roadie. Looks like it wouldn't put much load on the plasterboard wall either.

That's a neat little solution sjw, thanks for the link. In the main, I want to affix it to the wall to keep the floor free for sample boxes etc. It's a small study I'm working with so want to keep it as neat and tidy as possible. Sure something will work.
