Bath must see/do's
October 19, 2015, 09:10:27 pm
Me and my good lady are off to Bath this weekend to celebrate her recent new job success  :clap2: :lets_do_it_wild: :icon_beerchug: :dance1:

I've never been before, so I'm open to any suggestions for must see or must do attractions, eateries etc etc.

We arrive late on Friday night, and check out on Monday morning.

Proceed.....

Have you got somewhere to stay? My brother does airbnb - nice gaffe in the city centre.

Obviously, the big draw is all the Roman stuff, plus the fancy new spa thing (seeing as you're celebrating). But I also like the Holburne Museum - http://www.holburne.org

Also of interest is the American Museum, just a few miles outside the city - http://americanmuseum.org

In my opinion (I lived there for a number of years) the things to do are:

Roman Baths - have afternoon tea in the main room (they often have a live quintet playing and they take requests!)

New style spa - pretty nice. Not amazing, but good value.

The Boater Pub - lovely on hot days

Walk around The Circle and Royal Crescent. Really interesting. Nice park in front on nice days too.

Shopping - stay the top end of town.

Walks - you can't beat the canals down by Bathampton. Great pub on the canal too (food isn't amazing though).

Bangin pitch and putt in victoria park, me and my girlfriend enjoyed it a lot. There's a good little mini golf near there too (i'm not obsessed with golf)

Good knowledge so far, thanks gents.

Andy, we have accommodation booked thanks but I'd certainly be interested in your brother's digs for potential future visits. Would it be possible for you to PM them to me please?

We did one of the free walking tours - http://visitbath.co.uk/travel-and-maps/explore-the-area/mayor-of-bath-honorary-guides-p43001

Surprisingly interesting and really good for getting the lay of the land

Dont drink the water from the spa it's horrid.

Pubswise The Salamander, The Raven and The Old Green Tree are all good for different reasons. I like the spa a lot esp the rooftop pool. If you go Sunday night late on its empty which is brilliant. V good veggie restaurant there if you're into that

As it's a celebration of your partner's success and the focus of the weekend will be on her enjoyment of the visit: I suggest the it-never-fails-to impress-the-more-sophisticated-woman ploy of ordering a pint of the (excellent) local ale, Butcombe. What could end the perfect weekend in England's finest Georgian townscape better than the love of your life hearing you pronounce in ringing manly tones "i'll have a pint of ..."
Enjoy, it is a lovely city.

England's finest Georgian townscape

From a Scouser, this is no less than treachery.

Bugger, I knew I was being imprecise, and trust a bloody academic to (rightly) pick me up on it; Ok, most homogeneous Georgian townscape.
And back on topic remember Mike it's the bloody south so they will underfill your pint and you must ask for a "Dribble more ...".
