BetaStick repair
September 20, 2015, 01:50:06 pm
Has anybody had any success having their clipstick repaired - when it gives up the ghost on locking - ie turns into a kind of a joke telescopic pole. My current solution is to tape the offending section in place & accept that it will never again be as long as it once was.
I guess I could just MTFU and run it out to the first threads shell out for a new one.
Thanks.

Erm, if it's still under guarantee take it back to the shop, if it isn't take it apart and have a look?

The only solution I've ever seen work is to find the part of the tube where the collar should be locking and hit it with a rock so it narrows slightly.

I wish you could take these things apart to maintain them...

I wish someone would make a high quality clip stick. I'd pay a bit more.

Agreed, these sticks aren't fit for purpose. Surely someone can make something better?

While we're at it, any good mods so modern fat sports draws are actually held by the wire?

Just put some tape round the metal spring. Not where the draw sites obviously....

I'm amazed Stone's homemade design of clipstick hasn't caught on more. For anyone interested it's a long fishing pole from decathlon (like this - buy the 7m version) with a jump lead clip on the end to put a quickdraw in.

Admittedly they're not very practical to haul up routes clipped to your harness but for putting draws in from the ground they're way better than a Betastick and at a fraction of the cost.

The flag/fishing poles seem like a good idea IMO (with a betastick head).

Have you tried emailing Beta Keefe? I know Tony to have repaired a number in Sheffield. Mine's getting to this stage and I think I might just use it for parts.

My new Wild Country draws work perfectly in the beta;

Cheers Paul, that was going to be my first choice, but I failed at the first hurdle - couldn't find their email address on their webpage. I now see that it is on their facebook page .

Thought I might as well resurrect this thread than start a new one.

My mate has snapped the thin red section of my stick off. Anyone know if it is possible to get this repaired and how much it might cost? If not I guess I'll just ram the end back in and hope for the best..

Cheers.
