One arm hangs with added mass
September 14, 2015, 07:06:15 pm
I was reading "Legendary feats of strength" forum thread here and I saw a picture of Alexandre Megos recently hanging one arm from the BM slot with 25kg in his free hand. It got me thinking, if I want to onsight 9a and also climb Lou Ferrino without the pockets, as Megos has done, should I aim for +25kg or +35kg which is an equivalent fraction of bodyweight adjusted to me (I'm heavier than Megos)?

Thank you

Disappointing. I thought this thread was going to be about deadhanging in a Catholic church.

douglas - I can't fault your enthusiasm for training matters but it does seem your focus is misdirected at times

To the OP,

do you not think that, by trying to emulate Megos, you are in fact impacting negatively on your own potential; in a way, you're fighting against your own psychological perspective by identifying what Alex can do, and what you perhaps can't do (yet). I don't mean to sound negative there, but it was necessary to make the point.

Looking for ways of getting "one step ahead" will probably produce better results.

There's some footage on the Kafe Kraft website of Megos using rings for stability work. To emphasise control, have you considered, rather than using added weight, perhaps holding a one arm side lever for a few seconds? Say 15? You could do both, but added weight might act as a counterbalance and produce unrepresentative results.

in my head, deadhanging with added weight in a Spanish church would be misa de más masa ?

the sound of which makes me smile

The main thing is: there is no such pic of Megos on that topic.

I'm just amazed that no-one is asking about the length of these "hangs". Without that number what are you trying to emulate? I see enough bad science at work without getting it here too....

Actually, you should change your name and nationality, and then pretend to be him so you then don't actually have to train at all and can simply take credit for his accomplishments.
