Not a new problem or type of grip but I'm after some DIY advice...

After an incident with a towel in a sink, a blocked overflow and a dripping tap, I had to 'retire' the carpet in MrsTT's toilet.

After some advice as to what to put down. Current thoughts are :
1. Carpet. Ffs it's a bog - no way
2. Lino - effective but tacky
3. Tiles - hmm nicest option but may need access to floorboards in future (spotlight shit in ceiling  below)
4. Some laminate shizzle - wood or tile effect (possibly best optionso far)

Anything else out there? It's also wonky floorboards so probably need some sort of boards out before - but rather not raise the floor level more than a cm or so else I'll have to shave the bottom off the door etc...

Thoughts, advice, mild insults welcome

That works better on oil but as a suburban intellectual you probably drink a lot of olive oil.

I use lots of baby oil - but never drink it. We do of course have olive oil and muesli on tap.

We've got cork floor tiles on our bathroom floor. Not my idea, Mrs S chose them, but I like them.

Yeah will do - but it's a wanky set up so suspect it'll need looking at again in the future..

Avoid any wood based laminate, they buckle and warp at the slightest bit of moisture. Even the supposedly water resistant ones like bamboo. Tiles will be expensive and cold on bare feet. Also can crack on floor boards if they aren't very rigid. Lino doesn't have to be cheap and nasty. We have some nice matt stuff which is grippy when wet. Expensive lino will still be cheaper than tiles.

I'd stick down some bathroom-spec laminate. Warmer on your feet than tiles. Piece of piss to keep clean. I only say this cos I think ours is laminate, was there when we moved in and never had any bother with it or need to replace. But yeah the non-bathroom stuff will fuck up if you have a leak (not a piss).

Our current kitchen floor is a decent quality Lino, coz the floors too wonky for laminate. It's OK but still find the bottoms of chairs etc can dig into it a bit, it's just not as heard wearing as laminate.

Tile onto thin plywood screwed onto floorboards.

Vinyl can be okay, depends on quality and design. We have this, works nicely.

Actually having had a look just now at ours I haven't got a fucking clue what it is, it's in board segments like laminate, but has the slightly soft feel of Lino. Christ knows what it is.

Thanks all - there's some big gaps (up to 5mm) between the uneven boards- so I think it'll have to be boarded with some thin ply before anything goes down..  Might do that first then work out what goes down...

Will check out the high end Lino - as this is probably much easier than laminate/tiles...

The temptation to miss the toilet and aim elsewhere (for #1 and #2) might be too great. I like fiends idea - but would take up too much depth.

Lino all the way. Overboard with the thinnest ply you can get and wack the lino down. You can get allsorts of designs,  easy to fit and easy to clean. Warm underfoot as well. You'll need much thicker ply down for tiles

Similar to Fiend idea friends of ours ( I know you will staggered to think I 've got some) had loads of pebbles encased in a resin. I'm sure there will be a technical term for this, however it was warm under foot and quite stimulating.

Cork tiles also good but you need to put the plywood down again and use funny Cork adhesive and then several layers of varnish. Nice and warm underfoot but a lot more hassle than lino

Yeah needless to say I didn't fit ours myself. They do look good though, are nice and warm and easy to clean.
