Burbage today?!
September 18, 2014, 08:38:09 am
In your collective wisdom, would it be madness to try a session at Burbage West after work (5pm)? Weather seems to be clearing up as the day goes on. Open to other location suggestions, just thought it would catch the wind there.

Prob worth a bet if there's a bit of wind, I walked from nth to sth last wk on a still day and it was hideous. Ants and flies everywhere then got ripped off royally for a hot choc in the Norfolk

Needs alot of wind this time of year... it comes out of the sun from 12:30 onwards so rock might be OK...

Cloudbase has been hovering between Fulwood and Ringinglow for the last 24 hours. It might be dry in the cloud, but I doubt it. If it clears up you should be fine anywhere with a breeze or in the sun. I.e. probably not B west.

Thanks everyone.

Agree that it's not looking good, might have to put the bouldering mats away and go to the works instead.  :(

lime?

El Sharkio suggested it may be gopping with the mist around - I'm inclined to agree though not certain...

Have been invited to Stoney but thinking it may suffer from condensation? I have a cruciate ligament on the mend on my right hand, so not sure how much open-handable stuff will be there anyway..

there's a certain enjoyment to be had from doing stuff in poor conditions...

Be worth a look. I wouldn't expect there to be condensation as the temperature has been fairly steady. Not sure the mist has been that low either.

Thanks everyone. Went to Stoney (minus 10) and it was pretty poor conditions there so I just jumped about on dynos.

I'm far from an expert on peak limes condition nuances, but it does seem to be a fickle beast...

The brightness meant the Eastern edges were in fine if slightly warm nick this evening. Lovely soloing weather, but the cloud was back down at dusk...

I can't apologise enough. I did say 'if it clears up you should be fine anywhere with a breeze or in the sun'. It didn't brighten 'til mid-afternoon though.

In case anyone is tempted by tonight, I drove there at 4pm and it was damp in the air (small dots on windscreen), windy so perhaps it'd blow over but I bailed and am going to the works!

I had a play on BBGW on the way from Horncastle (30 miles East of Lincoln) to Manchester (that was a nice journey.....)

And...

It was climbable - sub primo - with some dampness on handholds - but bizarrely velcro like foot friction... Lots of wind - so it was drying nearly as fast as it was getting damp. But still 18 degrees - so not especially pleasant.. Having said that I gave up after 20 min when it looked like I was going to split a tip on WSS :(

So if you're after a cheeky post work session be warned....

Yeh, who knows. I had to have my windscreen wipers on properly, it was that bad. Saying that, I was driving fast.

you may be experiencing Sweaty Windscreen Syndrome, whereby the amount of wet that you perceive whilst looking through glass is an exaggeration of the amount of wet that you would feel on a bit of rock with the right position and aspect

It is also worth bearing in mind that, at this time of year, mornings can provide pretty good conditions for easy/moderate milage = cool rock

I was out yesterday morning and had fun

if you can get out of bed and get to the rock as it's getting light, you'll have an hour or two of climb time before having to head for work (eating second breakfast in the car)

I'm so smugperior that I even got home in time to get my bike and cycle to work (well, I wasn't working till 11)
