A friendly little correction with Rancid, And Out Come The Wolves.

Just wondered if anybody knew of Cassette Boy, and if so, is it worth me parting with some dosh for any of his/their works?

ARGH! (in a good way), casette boy, saw them at the mighty BANGFACE, linkola > http://www.bangface.com/ < if you scrat around that site you might get a snippet

is it the parker tapes that you're thinking of getting? reviews here > http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/urban/reviews/cassette_parker.shtml < for me, a little overdone, but still good

Finally got around to buying this today:

but when I put it in my CD drive, it made this noise:

CrrRRRRRrrrRRRRrrRRrrr <rattle> CrccrcrccrrcrcRRrrRcrRrrcRcrrcrcrcrc *plink*

so I took it out and ripped it onto my laptop. It's awesome. More chilled natural sounds similar to the Campfire Headphase. I've only listened to it once, however, so it's bound to improve!

i made my bi-annual trip to a proper record shop rather than my usual grubbing around in the sainsburys bargin bin and bought myself a copy of Ballad of the broken seas by isobel campbell and mark lanegan.

quite impressive i thought.

in my more chilled out moments, the following have been doin' it for me of late..

"sea change" beck
"fight for your mind" ben harper
"solid air" jon martyn
"exodus" bob marley

makes a change from the usual mix of british hip hop, funk, breaks and punk that seems to get me through the
day

ah, solid air, which may, or may not be on this patchouli scented offering from singlemanaffair > http://www.poptones.co.uk/mp3/singlemanaffairpodcast.mp3

solid air always puts me in mind of nick drake - the river man, and fairport convention's - who knows where the time goes

Been listening to some Alex Smoke.

Excellent downtempo techno/electro/electronica or however you want to label it.

If you liked the Nathan Fake/Rekid recs on this topic, then this will probably be up your street.

Quote from: discogs
Alex Smoke is unique talent to emerge from the Glasgow music scene. This young producer is pushing the boundaries of electronic music with his innovative style of fusing deep european minimalism with emotional strings and intellegent electro rhythms.

Alex Smoke has a background in classical music which is very evident from the quality of his arrangements.

Fuck.  He was playing in the 'burg last Friday night.  I couldn't find any motion lotion so didn't bother.

Bubba, have you got Outhouse by Fake on vinyl.  So simple, so good.  There's a tougher Umek remix available too.  Here's the original.  Right here.  A good track to hurl some nastiness over the top or under, methinks.

Been listening to some Alex Smoke

I've got a recent Alex Smoke Essential Mix and the recent Nathan Fake/James Holden EM from earlier this year.  Both quality slices of down tempo techno bleeps.

Nope, but will look out for it, though I don't buy vinyl any more. Like Umek though.

like to agree on the nathan fake tip, he has been keeping me well happy at the coal face this year (drowning in a sea of love LP)
on a classical groove anyone checked arvo part's minimalist plink plonk? (for arlina ep) - it's fine stuff, gets me teary-eyed! - also might not qualify as ffffffunky fresh beats either but hey

Got both mixes and they sound pretty good from a quick flick through - cheers for the rec.

PS http://themixingbowl.org/ is a great place to get Essential Mixes and Breezeblocks.
