Today I've been listening to this Canadian rock band:

I haven't been listening to this, but want to, the grafitti is most of the funny.

Mechanical but effective music.  Great wordsmiths too.

That Wrong album is astonishingly good. It was a soundtrack for my life at the time of its release.

I've also been revisiting the same late 80s/early 90s period with the equally astounding Repeater by Fugazi. Both bands were phenomenal live acts too.

I'm really new to Wrong.  The only other LP I had was Sex Mad which I liked but knew thay could've/had done  better - annoyingly this would have been around the release of WrongWrong is fast.  I think I like Nomeansno so much more when they are rolling along slowly before belting-off on one.  I've an MP3 called Sex is Philosophy which I think is the best track from NMN that I've heard:

Sex is philosophy - philosphy is sex - pr0no video X X X

Here are the words in full to a great song

Fugazi's best LP came after Repeater and is Steady Diet of Nothing

Fugazis' weakest link musically are the drums.  Brendan Canty is not an awesome drummer, I think he's got worse with age.  Presumably this is why Fugazi have been using a second drummer when playing live for a while now.

Check this band out.  It took me a decade to find a CD, made up I was!  Third World War.  Should appeal to fans of rock, blues, UK ur-punk/pub rock, and communists.  A great band.  I only have Third World War 2, but it is excellent.  Lyrically brilliant.  Here

Funny graffiti - I went to see Nomeansno in Manchester around the time that Wrong came out.  To this day it's one of the best live performances I ever seen and I've seen some good bands.. brilliant.

Is anyone else going to ATP's Nightmare Before Christmas in Minehead this December?

Here's the line up...

IGGY & THE STOOGES
SONIC YOUTH »
BARDO POND »
SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE »
JACKIE-O MOTHERFUCKER »
CHARALAMBIDES »
MY CAT IS AN ALIEN »

MELVINS »
MAGIK MARKERS »
ALEXANDER TUCKER
DEERHOOF
WOODEN WAND
SUNBURNED HAND OF THE MAN
RICHARD YOUNGS
WOLF EYES »
NEGATIVE APPROACH
DEAD C
MONOTRACT
PRURIENT
AWESOME COLOUR
DKT MC5 FEATURING MARK ARM

Iggy rules. Went to see him as part of the line up on the Sex Pistols - Filthy Lucre tour way back in '94. He blew The Pistols off the stage IMO. Probably still a stick thin, wirey and wired bundle of frenetic energy now.

If you have not heard of the German electronic ensemble Rechenzentrum, then you do now.  I love this trio of knob-twiddlers.  I'd file it under electronia, yet some tracks are closer to ambient or even minimal techno.  They blow my mind with their sensitivity.

If you've the dough, the CD below is the one to have:

This CD also has some extremely interesting visuals included on the CD for you to pop in your computer and go cool! The track IBM is particularly interesting to fans of 2001 Space Odyssey.

You can hear samples here

Rechenzentrum translates as Computer centre.

More can be discovered of this unusual trio of weirdy-beardies here

FD has been listening to too much hillbilly music recently and dipped his toes back into the murky waters of electronic bangs, bleeps and other noises.

Boxcutter - Oneiric: Dub Step meets Autechre... I wasn't quite sure at first but playing at full volume in the wife's open top sports car avec Bose sound system and sub woofer certainly did the trick.  This is pretty damn good IMHO even if the old duffers in the layby at Topley Pike didn't appreciate the selections.

Kode 9 presents Dub Step All Stars Vol 3: This is a bit mad really.... not _quite_ sure whether it'll stand up to repeated plays.. seven samurai samples, aggressive london girl grime artists, sub sub basslines and hoovers

The Nova Dream Sequence: Interpretations: Now this is quality, King Britt aka Sylk 130, Scuba and other random pseudonyms puts out a carl craig style full length mixed house/techno/tech album... some real standout tracks and overall the whole CD warrants a listen from start to finish.  There's probably an unmixed vinyl version available somewhere...

On a completely separate note:

Pissed Jeans: Don't Need Smoke To Make Myself Disappear - 7" on Sub-Pop - Locust Abortion era Buttholes and Flipper/Fear/Drunks with Guns/Lazy Cowgilrs clash on this one.. it was almost 1987 again for a moment.

Edited for bad spelling

Iggy's still got it. He headlined the Big Day Out here in January and was fantastic, going off like a loon.

I once saw Iggy Pop receive a blow-job from a fully-looped junkie-chick on the edge of a pool table.  Surprisingly, it has not affected my opinion of this artist.   Steve Albini

Good to see some support being waged for Fugazi. Have to admit though, I'm a big fan of Canty's drumming.
Check out Wirral's own : The Laze. I'd be glad to hear what peoples thoughts are.

Check out the Bad Ghost Demo on the myspace page, recently uploaded by the band. Very much worthwhile seeing live.

Okay. I need some trance or trancey techno CD recommendations, and I need them quick! Preferably something that can be found on Juno, and ideally by the end of tomorrow as I want some for a trip away.

The older stuff I like is stuff like Reactivate compilations, LSG, Lab4 - something vaguely similar or trending towards the technoey side would be cool.

Cheers!

Johannes Heil vs Felipe  Double Mix CD.  Here

Can't say if it fills your needs, but I like it a lot.  Especially the Heil disc.

Plus OXIA's Vital Session Mix CD of 2003 is cool in a slightly funky retro way.  Again, not sure if this is what your after, but it's good.  It's not on juno though, maybe Amazon.

I saw a band called Battles last night.  They were phenomenal.

Check there summer live dates on the warp site here

Other shizz

They play in Dublin tonite.  Mindblowing drumming that puts a machine to shame and Proper Bo sounds all round.  Go and see them.

Here is Battles' myspace page with a representative track for you to nod your head to.

Good call Houdini, I liked that a lot.

Is it all instrumental? Just thought it would be great with a Dagnasty style vocal over the top:

More specifically something from Can I Say, like Never go Back:

Only know Can I Say.  Great record.  Still sounds good.

Battles do use vocals but these are fucked up and fully knob twiddled away from being called sung.  Mostly instrumental sounding.  Some of the guys drumming last night was ridiculous, the myspace track is pretty mild.  They played this track around the fastest pure drum & bass beat I've ever seen a man make, really kicking bass and fast snare work, totally wicked, Fiend would love that track.

Americana Corner:

Do you know Nina Nastasia?

Indeed, and I am somewhat dissapointed. Not bad, but nothing to get worked up over - certainly a step down from Split the Difference in my opinion. Still really looking forward to seeing them at beautiful days this year though. :bounce:
