Ben to carry the anaology a little further I'm no so keen on the sandwich filling either

Yeah don't you know he only eats nuts? Oh and seeds. Nuts and seeds. "Nut and seed sandwich with a side of tofu for the freak".

(that's my hotmail fucked for the rest of the week)

Ben to carry the anaology a little further I'm no so keen on the sandwich filling either, and I like hip hop.

So you don't like the bread, you don't like the filling, but you like the wrapper?  (That one was too good to miss)

I don't know what kind of music it would be categorised; there's such a range of sounds on the album.  Like Fiend says, dance music encompasses so much these days and in its own modest way, this album demonstrates exactly that.  Not exactly dance music, but dance music through and through.  If you get me.

Yeah the packaging is appealling, I try and listen to new british hip hop to see if I find anything I like as much as the american I'm into. No luck yet!

Jas prepare for some serious fail whale time!

Stubbs, out of interest what US hiphop are you into?  Just interested as I don't listen to masses of hiphop but am a bit of a fan of that stuff I do listen to.  The only US stuff that I've got is generally from well known/popular artists like Nas, J5, Mos Def etc.

On the popular UK side, I guess you've tried people like Format (admittedly with a Canadian rapper), Manuva, Sway etc?

Good shout there re: Aspects.  Got a few of their tracks, but no long players.  I'll check the Mark B and Blade stuff though.  Any recommendations Fiend?

Check out Giggs for some quality new grime/hip hop, it may be a little heavy for you if you're into the lighter end of hip hop.  If you're into the grime thing at all, I'd recommend Kano's Home Sweet Home, one of my favourite albums of all time.

For the U.S stuff, I listen to a lot of dirty south, which isn't to a lot of people's tastes; stuff like Slim Thugg, Birdman, Three 6 Mafia, David Banner, etc.  If you can find the Ratatat remix albums you might be into them, as it's a lot of Hip Hop tunes remixed with more electro style beats.

If you're into the New York stuff like Nas my first choices would be Mobb Deep, Cormega and Gangstarr (although I'm sure you must have heard some of their stuff).

I'm not really into J5 but Dilated Peoples have a similar sound and are pretty good.  If you Like Mos Def Assume you've checked out Talib Kweli?  You might also want to check out Jean Grae, awesome NY female mc.

Obviously I assume you've listened to Reasonable Doubt and Ready to Die!

hth if all that is already old news to you then I'll try and come up with some more choices.

Aspects - Correct English
Mark B & Blade - The Unknown

However by far my favourite rappers are Canadian - Swollen Members. Get Balance, Bad Dreams, and Black Magic. Dope beats and dark rhymes.

From da Westside (i.e. USA) The Roots are worth checking out too on the 'ip-'op front

And from da Eastside (i.e. UK) MC Pitman is brilliant  :dance1:

Some good recommendations there, thanks.  Some I knew of, some not.  Apart from the Pitman shout.  Sorry Slackline, never been a fan.  But thanks all the same.

Had a listen to the Dan le Sac vs Scroobius first album the other day and wasn't really feeling it, finding the lyrics often too self-righteous, I suppose he is saying what a lot of other bands are saying but I guess it just came over in a needlessly pretentious way.

As for US hiphop you may like Murs, he did an amazing vocal over Chase and Status' mad house but some of his solo stuff is good too. Also Zion I are a good bay area hiphop band, both albums being worth listening to. Supernatural has got an amazing flow, kind of on a J5 tip I guess. I had some of his stuff on vinyl but not sure if he ever released an album. You should also definately try to see him live, he was world freestyle champion for ages and can rap like biggie/snoop etc, great live show.

From the UK i guess you're already wise to Braintax, it's politically driven hiphop from Yorkshire way, some of the tunes are a little obsolete as they focus on Bush and the invasion of Iraq/Afganistan but still pretty good. Jehst is good from the UK, Under the weather is a great track. Blak Twang as well, rotten being a classic tune.

I had an amazing hour long mix of DJ Premier beats with Biggie, Nas and Big-L accapella's mixed over them if you'd like me to burn you a copy. Dunno if you're into those three but those 4 exemplify hiphop at it's best for me.

FAO all hiphop fans:

You MUST get hold of Swollen Members - Armed To The Teeth. It is f***ing fantastic. Swollens' previous albums (Balance, Bad Dreams, Heavy, Monsters In The Closet & Black Magic) have all been great but this is the next level for sheer dopeness. The beats are so PHAT they make Sloper look anorexic, and then you get to track 13 - Flyest and holy f***ing bass it's outrageous (don't listen to this unless you have a good system it's a waste). Only downside is that the lyrics are less creative and more gangsta than before but the sheer phlava and catchy choruses make up for it. It's pretty much like Swollen have incorporated the best bits of Ludacris and Eminem. I've just started the 4th play of the CD in a row....just get it okay.

so its shit then ;), Ludacris is a fuckin joke and the last good thing Eminem put out was before he was signed, on the promo Infinite, and maybe a couple of scraps here and there. Hip hop without good lyrycs is pointless in my opinion, ganster rap is a cancer on the goodness that is hip hop. I will check them out later though.

Hush your chops, I'm not a fan of gangsta rap per se but neither am I snobby about it, it has it's good bits and shouldn't be dismissed just like that.

I never used to be able to work out why I didn't like Swollen Members, then I found out they were from Vancouver and that explained a lot.

Oh yeah, I am snob about hip-hop, sorry.
