TC  :spank:  :spank: :bounce:
shame there's no sending someone to prison for their cimes against dnb smiley, it would get used here.

TC may not produce or mix the most heavy and cheeseless tunes, but surely there is a time and a place?  Lots of people don't want to hear what appears to be the sound of a heavy munitions factory being bombed by the RAF at over 160 bpm at all times of day.  I haven't got much TC stuff but I quite like his Watch the Ride mix even though there is far too much singing involved and not enough high speed barrel rolls of sound over the top of what could be described as a tin of ballbearings being dropped down a deep well.  Again, time and place.  Not on a Saturday night but maybe midweek, seven am on the way to work.

As for crimes against DnB, who cares?  Its just music that's produced to please and if it pleases someone, then it has worked. No?

Anyhoo, currently enjoying new Guillemots. Bit more structured (no 8 min epics) than last album, but still some great tunes. New Elbow is good too, if you like that sort of thing.

Grab it now and educate yourself in what modern industrial is.  It is not two pieces of sheet metal a la Einstürtzende Neubauten c. 1985!

Profound sound.

Perfect.

Wrap your earholes around this shizzle. Should appease casual listeners and connoisseurs alike. My copy is in the post, a bargain price too.

Good, good...

A special treat that I feel is worthy of aural appreciation by all and sundry....

Chris Morris Blue Jam Series 1-3

Grabbed from various places over the years, in no small part thanks to Cook'd and Bomb'd, this is the almost complete set of the three radio shows that preceeded Jam, and were broadcast on Tuesday mornings at 02.00 after the Breezeblock.  The main omission is the sixth episode of the first series which was edited due to potential liable or some other such nonsense (see Wikipedia article for details, plus links to transcripts).

This is truly the work of genius, sit back, relax and zone out to 18hours (or 1.4Gb) of ambient twistedness.

Blue Jam - Series 01 - Episode 01
Blue Jam - Series 01 - Episode 02
Blue Jam - Series 01 - Episode 03

If anyone has the full version of Episode 6 from the first series give us a shout, I'd be eternally grateful.

Can anyone recommend anything similar as I feel the need to investigate blues a bit more and any pointers to some real old school slide guitar blues gratefully received as well.

Old thread here http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php/topic,2952.0/topicseen.html and look at Jack Rose & Steffen Basho Junghans for present day awesomeness; Fahey and Kotke for fantastic 60's and 70's solo fingerpicking/slide reinterpretations of old blues - once you've found Fahey it'll help you navigate back to pre-war.

Having just upgraded to a great big fuck-off 160gb ipod, I can fit a bunch of mixes on there again.  Some stuff I've been digging:

Idiot Proof - Water Cyborgs: downtempo funk/hiphop kinda vibes
http://stealthfunbook.blogspot.com/2006/04/water-cyborgs-idiot-proof.html

Kid Kameleon - The End of Dub: dubby type stuff

Chris Morris Blue Jam Series 1-3

Good find. I managed to get a hold of the shows he did at Radio One, when it still used to have any kind of relevance. Really good tho, and some suprising choice's of music. Mine still have all the news bulletins, like being stuck in a early 90's timewarp, perish the thought.

Very good indeed and not at all like his usual mixes you can download.  More clubby and less random samples.  Listened to it three times last night and the only disappointment was that the Skream track at the end didn't lead into a dubstep mash-up as I'd hoped when it started.

Portishead - In anticipation of their "Third" album....this recent video of "Wandering Star" is mighty fine if Portishead floats yer boat

On the same subject....I've just listened to an advance copy of Portishead's new album "Third". It's total quality.

I've just listened to the fourth track, "The Rip" over ten times in a row straight, love it.

Fuck me this is just such a blinding LP.  It's just out there!  This dudes voice is  w o w  !!  Somewhere between classic/experimental/post-rock/avant garde weirdness.  Just . . .

Will someone DL SCOTT WALKER's ~ The Drift, and tell me how good it is!?  That I'm not imagining it!?

This record has taken over my day, probably tomorrows too.  Thank fuck I'm unemployable.

Downloaded at work today, but didn't get round to listening (one of the binds of being employed).  Will post my opinion tomorrow after a couple of listens (if I've time).

Not really my cup of tea on first listen, so won't really comment on whether its good or bad.  Will see if it grows on me.

On a DnB tip though, stumbled across www.dnb-sets.de that seems to have a ton of mixes on there for free.  :great:

The One in the Jungle 1997 old-skool mix from Mampi Swift has got my foot tapping nicely at the moment (quality could be better mind).

I have only listened to it once after buying it yesterday but my first impression was that the middle part (tracks 3 to 7) were bordering on the brilliant but the rest of the tracks with one exception are a bit patchy - I will persist with it though and will no doubt be forced to commit a Gordon Brown-esque about turn soon.  ;)

Something that really is worth checking out though is the new Four Tet EP Ringer.

Obviously Four Tet when you listen to it but subtly different to his earlier stuff - a bit more edgy I would say and very nice too.
