Keep reading about BURIAL.  Never heard them - or at least I think I haven't.  Found an interesting interview

Underground music should have its back turned, it needs to be gone, untrackable, unreadable, just a distant light.

Thoughts?
The music is very disappointing TBH, plenty of potential in it tho
Have given it plenty of listenings and at best can say its nearly OK

Burial.   Funny thing, seems to be the talk of the underground . . .

Bluebrad - I'd wager one guinea that you'd dig the glacial ethereal soundscapes of this CD tres-tres.  Henrik B - Kryoniks  (www.truesoulrecords.com)

Ice Ambient! Pretty nice stuff.

I'm sure bluebrad mentioned this before but: Smallfish records are having a closing down sale with hundreds upon hundreds of CDs of electronica / ambient / experiemental / chillout / downbeat / house / techno / trip-hop etc etc at 70% off standard prices.

They've got samples for almost everything and after a few hours of research I've ordered 8 CDs of varied bleeping, banging, droning and twiddling for 30 notes. Which isn't bad.

Had a look, but for some reason the flash plugin of my browser doesn't work with that site, despite working fine with others.  Haven't been arsed to sort it out yet, this could be the impetus I need to get it fixed (maybe)

Yeah I've caught the Valve Soundsystem a couple of times, very good nights.

Cheers for the heads up on Shy FX mixes, I was listening to the Essential Mix earlier today and it is indeed topnotch.

Pon that too.

Friction mix was pretty phat, full high-octane stuff.

DNB CDs are a bit dry at the moment, alas...

Fiend, quit this blarney w/Adam and get onto the WARP site and order THIS IS FOR YOU SHITS which is a LTD Edition CD of 1000 of Surgeons 2nd mix CD.   They wont last forever, oh, and they cost five pounds sterling.  That's right, you heard it here 1st.

It's full of warp trax plus other out-there acts such as the inimitable Whitehouse and British Murder Boys.

DJ Friction eh? I think I have that mix, seem to remember it being quite good but I've only listened to it once (during  :shag: ) so I can't remember it. Probably boring though, I bet he didn't drop any Current Value...

Ladies and techfiends, do I have an excellent mix for you today?!  It's on it's 3rd rotation this morning - unprecedented.

GREYHOUND - Midnight Mix #1 192kbps / 69mins  An exploratory mix of textures, tones and shapes.

The 1st 10 minutes are divine beatless gems.  The remainder is fab.

Tracklisting.  Enjoy.

I will endeavour to check it out on the strength of your recommendation but I have already bought about 20 CD's this month and I really dare not add anymore to the list or I will be bankrupt...

Been listening to Labradford's Prazision LP and it is starting to work now - a bit different to their later stuff but not bad for that.

Anyway these two albums have been rocking my world this week:

First up some classic jazz influenced stuff by Tortoise - specifically this:

Next something which the great Houdini might know about which is Pan American.

It is one half of Labradford and it sounds similar with the shimmering guitar thing but it has a great dub sound going on as well. One for late at night after a glass of port or two for sure!

Damn you Houd!  ;)  Just noticed the Haswell and Hecker CD they have as well which is intriguing - do you know anything about them ie are they any good?

The Pan American LP is a fine recording, for sure.  Good tip.

Hecker?  Would that be Maximillian Hecker & is that CD on Kitty Yo, a Berlin label?  If it is & I'm making the right connections expect something close to (struggles to define it -smiley) pop-tech (?).  Kitty Yo are a fab label & I strongly recommend you explore their back catalogue - in particular for a duo of weirdy-beardy laptoppers called Rechenzentrum (which means something like, Command Centre).  They have a 3rd memeber whose duties are restricted to the visual art in their performances and releases.  eg - I'll kick off w/the big one (apologies for repetition, it's on this thread somewhere)

There is also a .mov on the CD set to the track IBM (which makes terrifying use of a 2001 S/Odyssey sample).  Very very sensitive and moving electronica which would sit very comfortably amongst your collection.

Also - their eponymous LP - Kitty Yo, auch sehr sehr gut.
Also - their Directors Cut CD/DVD - Mille Plateaux.
Also - their Silence DVD -Weiser Music.

www.rechenzentrum.com
www.myspace.com/rechenzentrum

Haswell?  I cannot help.

Tortoise.  That looks like the Standards LP.  I love their work particularly their 1st & 2nd LP - from a time before they had become comfortable in the space they'd defined for themselves.

Great recommendations all round, Bravo Bluebrad.

Re: Tortoise - it is Standards. Got most if not all of Tortoise's albums and they are all great but this is the album I would recommend if asked.

The Haswell and Hecker album that I am referring to is this: Haswell and Hecker and it would appear from a very small piece of research that it is not Maximillian Hecker but Florian Hecker. They seem to have a unique (to me at least) way of creating music:

"Haswell and Hecker return with this second and very limited release of work they've made using Iannis Xenakis incredible UPIC system of sound synthesis which is made of a drawing tablet the size of a large sheet of paper, and allows the user to “draw” a sound composition: the lines drawn with an electronic pen are directly translated into sound."

Weirdness abounds Batman!

Kitty Yo - know the name but not heard anything by them - I will research them tonight while on nightshift and try to avoid buying anything. Knowing me this will be futile. :(
