I'll second Will Oldham/Bonnie Prince Billy

I see a darkness
Ease down the road
Master and everyone

 - all excellent.

Undeniably dark, yet occasionally comic musings of the ultimate literate hillbilly, set against a wonderfully serene, atmospheric, lo-fi alt. country backing.

Haven't got very latest releases yet.

The Skinnyman album really is very very good

it's a good job i'm not gonna be in a car with you for 3 months. stuck with a couple of halfs of songs cos they'd been recommended. never have my eardrums been subjected to such a barrage of shite. yeh, tell it how it is skinny.

well, my taste in music is pretty mixed.   But even though I made that recommedation which you thought was shit, I also recommended Cat Power/Will Oldham/Goran Bregovic which you will like.

and what's this about a car for 3 months... I wish I could afford a car.  I'm too skint so it's back to hitching and relying on climbers to drive me around.

Jack Johnson - Any Album

super chilled acoustic guitar stuff with upbeat surf flavours (I love this pretentious music review shit).  Also collaborated with "G-Love and Special Sauce" (who are also worth checking out) who are rather more funky.   Jack Johnson only has a couple of albums out, but you can get his live shows from various BT sites, which are also really good. A great song to get is his cover of Jimmy Buffet's - Pirate looks at 40 (aka. mother ocean).  Brilliant. [/b]

With, as always, Clam, on bass.

Nice.

Seriously though Jack Johnson is nice chilled stuff. Toured live with Ben Harper quite a lot. Must have been good to see.

Ben Harper and Tom Fruend - Pleasure and Pain

This is the album by the two of them, and NOT the song by Ben Harper.  This album is early, and features brilliant guitars from both of them, and wonderful lyrics by Ben Harper.  Even a good bit of slide guitar to whet your appetite.

Hmm, better try getting hold of Jack Johnson then. I'll second the G.Love flava- the third album was a bit w*nky but 'Philadelphonic' brings back the funk.
My mate got G.Love's harmonica when it dropped off the stage at the Leadmill in Sheff, their first UK tour I think....

Phew! Managed to save my music collection from a complete hard drive failure.....

Finally got round to listtening to that Wilco thing that Pantontino is always bigging up. Not really my sort of thing but I thought a few tracks were really good.....but the rest left me a bit cold, though I was listening in the car so could probably do with another go in better surroundings.

Currently on is Pangeia Instrumentos by Victor Gama which is bizarre for a Rephlex relase. Well, most Rephlex shit is bizarre, but it's usually electronic mayhem, whereas this is all African music on specially mad accoustic instruments. Odd, but strangely engaging.

I've got the Victor Gama album too, I like it but you've got to be in the mood, can be hard work at times. Beautiful story though, think one of the intsruments is an abandoned soldier's helmet that he turned into a guitar.

Also I too would recommend Bonny Prince Billy, although it isn't the happiest of music to say the least , brilliant song writer though.

Might have to get the Cat Power album you recommended though Keith

With you on the James Lavelle Romania thing. The first cd in particular being fantastic.

How different is the shadow/ cut chemist product placement cd to the brainfreeze stuff? Incidently having seen shadow live i do believe it may have been one of the most impressive things i have ever seen, increadible. If you get the chance you should see him.

Just bought the new Ozomatli album as well - street signs, energetic and uplifting as ever, although probably not as good as embrace the chaos, but that may change with a few more listens

Word Laurie, is new Ozomatli album worth spending my not so hard earned cash on?  and also agree with cofe that gilles peterson is indeed wank live, so him at elbow rooms in leeds and bored me stupid

product placement is supposed to be the sequal to brainfreeze.  it's along the same lines - lots of rare tunes and awesome feats of turntablism.

havent seen shadow live.  someday...
