Potential UKB Summer Angling Match
March 10, 2014, 02:35:14 pm
After just receiving a photo message from UKB's most active human playing a carp on the long pole (Willackers), we're gauging interest in anybody who would like to take part in a UKB summer coarse match. Fatneck, I know you'll be in without even asking. Wackers is in and the other Tom Mills might also hopefully be willing to take part.

Thought we'd extend the invite if anybody else would be interested?

Also, after a number of thwarted charter boat trips, I'll be trying to get a grip for one of these this summer. Again, all welcome.

Good stuff Dave! Open to ideas venue-wise really. The North West has some cracking canal stretches, natural lakes etc. but firmly open to suggestions. There are some good commercial fisheries here in Wirral which is pretty equidistant from northern would-be participants but again, open to ideas. Fatneck and Will I'm sure will also have their own ideas.

I'd potentially be up for this. Not been fishing for years but still have my old feeder and float rods I knocking around somewhere. Would depend on dates and location though.

I work on the Wirral a couple of days a week the rest my time is spent in the south lakes.
There's a good day ticket water excellent for wild carp in the northern lakes somewhere forget the name! Will try and find some info.

Well up for this. I suppose we can decide on a venue once we know who is in. It would be good to keep the traveling down to a minimum for everyone involved.

I'd be as happy to catch silver fish on a canal all day as I would be smashing out carp on a commercial, it's all good fun.

Only if you attach it to your scrotum.

I'm in as long as I can get a pass and it's within an hour or so - somewhere in Cheshire maybe? My money will be going on Scouse though.

Awesome JB and good shout on Cheshire. Somebody's Fool is a member of Congleton Float Fishing Society if I remember rightly? ; )

Where is Scouse D these days? Absent online but perhaps could give word to him and see if he'd like to be the Bob Nudd of UKB? I'm going to get myself a bank runner for this one. Where's Dick Clegg when you need him...

Good stuff folks.

I'll start a rolling list of challengers to be updated on an ongoing basis:

Willackers
Fatneck (Game squire?)
Dave J
Johnny Brown
Scouse D (if somebody could ask him)
James Malloch
Tom Mills (TBC)

Some more collected thoughts...

Brayton is a great venue, fished it before and there's some stunning carp in there. However, there's few other fish in there and it's very much a boilies and buzzer water, also a bit of a trek for anyone not in the Lakes I'd have thought?

On the natural stillwater versus commercial argument, I'd go for a commercial for a few reasons;

1. They're used to matches
2. They're generally easier to peg
3. It's more likely everyone will catch

Will do some research but I'm happy to drive and drag Monolith along so not that fussed.

Possibles may include (off the top of my head)...

Partridge Lakes - Warrington
Lingmere - Wirral
Border Fisheries - Crewe
Loxley - Sheffield
Cheshire Fishing - Tattenhall
Hampton Springs - Malpas

This is a North West-centric list but I'm totally happy to drive Millso around so other suggestions are welcome...

As for ScouseD walking it, we'll see  ;)

Rolling news coverage and a sweepstake wouldn't go amiss though!

Surely should be a neutral ground so no-one has a home advantage?

There's no reason why we couldn't gravitate that way Scouse. It would be nice if it was a venue alien to us all as Chris points out. Shall we stick you on the list then Nudd? ; )

Sweepstake we can do. I absolutely cannot wait!

Perhaps we can finally start filming The Reel Thing as well Will? Still up for picking me up topless from the office?

For sure, how else are we going to start the film?, that followed by playing some monster carp with our tops off and pounding techno in the background.

Won't there be the obligatory driving to the crag lake/pond scene? ;)
