BMC: ACT trustees sought
February 19, 2014, 02:43:51 pm
www.thebmc.co.uk/get-in-on-the-action-become-a-trustee

The BMC Access & Conservation Trust (ACT) is looking to recruit between three and four new Trustees. This opens up an exciting opportunity for individuals to get involved with the BMC's charity.

ACT funds projects to protect our cliffs and mountains by facilitating education and conservation projects across the United Kingdom. In particular, ACT funding supports a wide range of projects encompassing policy-related work, literature production and large-scale environmental projects.

In recent years money has been donated to footpath restoration work (for example through Fix the Fells), a number of climbing Green Guides, the Avon Gorge Climbing project and more recently, a Winter Climbing Information Service monitoring ground and air temperatures in Cwm Idwal, Wales.

Visit the ACT webpage for the full list of the projects we have helped fund in the last 12 years.

ACT has been funding mountain based projects for over 15 years, yet it is not widely recognised as the BMC’s charity.  We are looking to improve the effectiveness and raise awareness of the charity.

Becoming a trustee provides an opportunity to apply the skills and experience you have gained to a totally new area of work.  Whether you are working or retired, we are looking for individuals to volunteer a small amount of time (3 to 4 meetings a year at our office in Manchester and occasional email correspondence) to help drive the charity, develop a clear future vision, approve funding applications, and search for new avenues of money as well as potential environmental projects to support.  This is a voluntary position; travel and accommodation expenses are payable.  Candidates must be a member of the BMC and an interest in climbing or hill walking would also be useful but not essential.

We would welcome expressions of interest from anyone with an interest.  In particular, we are keen to hear from people with experience in:

What we can offer:
An opportunity to apply your skills as part of a growing charity offering valuable opportunities to beneficiaries and the chance to make a real difference to the conservation of our climbing, walking and mountaineering environment.

The duties of a trustee:

2. To contribute actively to the board of trustees’ role in giving strategic direction to the Trust, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets;

3. To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the Trust and represent the Trust at events.

How to Apply
If you are interested in contributing your time and skills to the Access & Conservation Trust, please send an expression of interest detailing your experience and why you would like the position of ACT Trustee to Catherine Flitcroft, the Charity Co-ordinator by email Cath@thebmc.co.uk or phone 0161 438 3333 for more information.
