Anchor - Porter (US interpretation of the classic London style)

Love that Anchor Porter! Just had a Williams Bro Midnight Sun - always goes down well  :beer1:

And, like others have said 2/3 pint or even 400ml/440ml are good sizes for stronger stuff - I get utter shitfaced when i'm drinking in rounds as I generally drink nicer, stronger stuff (nothing to do with being an  :alky: hicccup...)

Had a pint of Black Country Dudley Pale Ale that I wasn't impressed with. Had a pint of "Climbing Boy" though which did well, nice hoppy aftertaste!

Found a proper micro brewery in Llangollen (in the carpark of the britannia hotel near the horseshoe pass) currently punting out 3 ales. The Llangollen bitter was ok, but I was mostly loving the Black bitter and Grange No1. The black was surprisingly easy for such a dark ale and the grange No1 was a proper session ale, 3.2%, light and gorgeous!

I miss Wards, that were proper beer. And Wadsworth 6X.
Theakston's is still nice though.

Personally I'm always shocked that the Adelphi in Leeds serve a utterly shite pint of Tetley given that they're right next to the feckin' brewery!!

Am I the only one who misses the original full fat version of Old Peculiar (9%) - we used to drop in the Junction in Otley on the way to the Lakes (early 80's) for a quick one or two and it certainly made the journey more fun/blurry/blacked out - its a crime what they did to it  :wavecry: it was pretty much liquid food for the weekend - old skool carb loading  :)

I remember that stuff, very nice it was too, though utterly brain destroying. Its still a nice pint though, just not as much as it was

Just enjoying another bottle of this:

Its reet good, I tell thee. Not sure what the availability is like nationally but should be easy to get hold of if you're up on fishie-on-a-dishie land our pet.

Had a pint of Golden Pippin today From Copper Dragon brewery in Skipton
http://copperdragonbrewery.squarespace.com/

It was very good, like a slightly less alcoholic Moonsine if you like that sort of light hoppy ale
Not  sure about their claim to produce the best ales in Yorkshire tho :-\

Golden pippin is a good steady away beer will drink it if there is nothing better on (which there normally is).
Golden sheep and timmy taylors golden best is a better  option as a light hoppy ale from yorkshire that gets shipped all over the place.
Lately I have been enjoying Mallinsons ales.

since we're on light hoppy stuff, this is my current favourite:

(sorry it's so big, can't find a smaller one)
Properly hoppy, here's what they say on their site:
"A real showcase of the fabulous Soracchi Ace hop, Acer is a 3.8% beer with a huge hop kick to it, ripe tangerines, resinous hops and a blast of citrus play around on a solid bready malt backbone... it surely can't only be 3.8% with that much flavour!" I'd agree with all of that.
If you're in bristol get a great pint from the grain barge. All the bristol beer factory stuff is pretty fine imho, dunno about availability nationwide though.

Probably struggle to find this stuff up north but if you see it grab a pint - really nice stuff and has a lovely citrus after kick.

Looks like more good pub news Sheffside:

http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=820546

This place has been in need of a major facelift ever since I've known it and (now it's walking distance from where I live) it may be a real bonus.

Interestingly it's had a "Lease This Pub" type sign on it for ages but:

Quote
It will reopen in early August as "The Ale House" and is an entirely free of tie addition to the real ale circuit

Which is another encouraging sign that the tide is turning for the pub companies and they are having to sell off some of their properties at sensible prices.

 :)
Been in there twice.
Once when I was 17 and we played a gig there.
Second time when I was 38 and an old school friend suggested a drink there.
Think I'll leave another 21 year gap before my next visit
