Well put.

Enjoyed a pint of Absolution with lunch at the Red Lion, Litton (also ate; not blow away but mine was the least interesting at the table).

Cracking pint of Golden Newt  at the Lister's in Malham. Just the ticket when your fingers are burning from hauling on tiny undercuts and sidepulls :)

New Thornbridge run pub in the offing

The Greystones is certainly a vast improvement over the Highcliffe which it has replaced and the beer is well kept.  Sampled some t'other evening.  Prices are a bit extravagant though and I'm not a fan of Thornbridges marketing policy.   But since they sell good beer ...

Had a couple of pints of this last night... very good. Tasted like a milder guinness - rather like Whitbred best mild used to taste (but that was greater than 20 years ago!)

Fuck me this was totally under my radar, and it is my local as fas as distance goes. The highcliffe was a fucking dreadful boozer, all carling extra cold and bigscreen premiership bollocks, good riddance i say. I hope this new reboot is a winner.

Alright beer lovers. Just wanted to tip people off about this boozer in the Trossachs with on board real ale minimarket and online shop.
http://www.theladeinn.com/microbrewery/index.php

Now I'm a proud Yorkshireman brought up on Tim Taylors but I have to say I've been well impressed with the Scottish ale scene since moving up and the lady running this place reckons they have the biggest selection anywhere.

If you like it pale I can recommend the 'Waylade', one of the house ales.

Has anyone mentioned Wigan's finest micro brewery, Prospect?

THE finest beers to be had. Look out for em at your beer festivals. Gold Rush is fookin champion! It was just one woman in her mother in law's garage but she's gone all commercial now and has an employee.

Om nom nom nom. Currently at Arcadia in Leeds. Nice taste of coffee but not too strong or off-putting (I usually can't stand the taste of it)

I dont think thats as bonkers as it sounds.... whenever I've been in Oz, Ive thought that a schooner's about the right size... A half's just daft - gone in no time, but conversely a pints sometimes too big and will sit there and get warm/flat before its finished..

(thats probably the reason for smaller beer measures in warmer countries - to stop it warming up before its finished..)

I await my smiting from all and sundry... MTFU comments etc...   :spank:

2/3pint is a pretty sensible measure for the stronger beers that craft brewers are so keen on.  A full pint of a US-style IPA or imperial stout, like Thornbridge's Halcyon or St Petersburg, often feels a bit much - in both alcohol and intensity. But half pints are just a bit too thimble like.  Two-thirds of a pint is a nice compromise; most strong Belgian and US beers come in, and seem to suit, 330ml or 355ml bottles, which is the same ballpark (2/3pint=3870ml).

.....and tonights beers are Harviestoun - Old Dubh (aged in casks used to age 18yo whisky), Anchor - Porter (US interpretation of the classic London style) and maybe a Belgian if I'm still awake (Rochefort 10, Kasteel Bruin......hmmmmm)

I'd actually be up for 1/3 or 1/4 pint glasses for beer festivals - would allow you to get round more ales before being shitfaced.

I've had 1/3pint glasses at a fair few beer festivals - I think a bright spark CAMRA realised a few years ago that 1/3pint was still a legal measure.  The Wetherspoon's beer festival uses them too - instead of a pint you can get 3x1/3pintsof different ales.  Only 'problem' at festivals is that you end up only drinking superstrength beers... and it can all add up quite nastily!

1/3 of a pint (or nip) has been used at the beer festivals for a few years now
