I'm confused Houdini..

Why would you be be hailing the release of a guy who murdered one of his mates and for many years espoused a racially oriented form of neo-paganism.. Do you think murder and racial hatred are cool if you happen to front a Death Metal band or something?

Varg "Count Grishnackh" Vikernes was an awesome musical creator, Burzum is Varg.  Yeah, he's a nutter that murdered someone that was going to kill him.  Oh and he burned some churches too.

Do I agree with the stuff he did?  No.
Do I think he created THE best SchwartzMetal ever?  Hell yeah!!!

Only a fool "excuses" what he did.  But I still think he's a musical visionary.
He was wrong.  He made good music.  Just because I love his music doesn't mean to say I agree with his views.

'cause he made (for the most part) good music. I don't share his beliefs and am never going to but he's an interesting character and was part of one of the most interesting musical genres, in terms of the activities going on around the music. The bands that were around prior to his incarceration (Mayhem, Burzum etc.) were totally true to their cause, they weren't; as many bands do, living a 'normal life' and then writing songs in an 'extreme' style, that was who they were at the time, which is something quite unique and therefore interesting.

I was thinking of this thread as I was reading Twitter earlier... the guy is a fucking dick.

Charlie Manson made some good folk albums too but was also a racist, messianic, nihilist murderer.

The ultra-green/volk movement is chock full of fascist, racist ideologues.. keep your heads twisted in the right way on kids.

I'm not sure how this changes much about him. I read an article on Vice (pretty sure it was on Vice but can't find it now) in the light of these arrests and the upshot was it was just a precaution based on Breivik sending him his manifesto + past crimes + wife owning weapons. Guy might be a dick but nothing has happened that has made him more dickish.
