Laptop for video editing?
September 23, 2013, 08:54:20 pm
Currently got a Macbook (>5 years old) which is dying slowly and constantly falls over while editing video. Looking to replace it with something powerful enough for video editing.

Despite owning a Mac I've not really got a preference whether it's Mac / PC, just looking for a decent replacement without shelling out too much cash.

Suggestions gratefully received.

http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/N56VZ/

I got one of these and would thoroughly recommend it. Really powerful: quad core, 8gb fast RAM, good graphics card -  easily fast enough for HD video editing.  Amazing 1080 screen. Decent sound for a laptop (B+O).

Plus looks better and feels more solid than most PC laptops, aluminium keyboard surround and feels really well made.
Only downside is it's not super thin?

(And can play all current games no problem, if your into that)

Anything with an Ivy bridge processor will be a vast improvement, coupled with 6-8Gb RAM and a SSD of reasonable size.  Its then a matter of how big a screen you want to lug round and "looks".  If weight is an issue look at what are termed "Ultrabooks".

There aren't many people with huge experience of lots of different laptops to provide a balanced view of the pros/cons, tech review sites are the way forward.
