Stupid elbow problem...
July 10, 2013, 11:04:23 am
I know this sounds ridiculous but...
A few weeks ago, I started carrying my bag for work without the shoulder strap, just by the handle. This produced a nice elbow pain on my left arm. I think that I may have hyperextended the elbow, while at the same time loading the tendons in a new way.
The pain is located on the outside of the elbow, but not in the place of the epicondilitis. It's painful to fully extend the arm and pinching and it goes down a bit along the muscle.
With a bent arm, pinching is fine.
No other major problems.
Any idea about what it could be and how to get rid of it? I am currently using antiinflammatory patches.
Any excercises I could do?
Thanks.

They could be either the anconeus or the extensor carpi or both. Or something else.

It reads like you just need to get stronger nibs. People think strength is easily transferable, this is not usually the case, esp when at the early stages of something new. You could start out with a smaller bag, maybe a purse, pink would suit. Then try again in a few months with the bag you're struggling with now

this is a classic example of not using the right tool for the job

what you have done is directly analogous to using a Ferrari to tow a caravan; sure there's easily enough power, but putting a tow bar on would just ruin the car

I have nothing useful to add

women are experts at carrying bags

I have noticed that they tend to do so with slightly bent elbows

I reckon that's the key to successful, injury free bag carrying

You are right it is ridiculous not only have you injured yourself, you managed at the same time to turn a manbag into a ladies handbag.

It sounds more manly if you use "Attaché case" instead of briefcase :P

Only if you use it to carry your thongs in.

It could be bursitis from underneath the tricep tendon?

I'm not sure calling your elbow stupid is very PC. I think "of limited abilities" is more acceptable.

That's right. My elbow was quite put out by the thread title.
