Awesome Walls Climbing Centre Sheffield Update

Work has commenced in earnest at Awesome Walls Sheffield. Rockworks are working flat out installing steel and Gin and Tonic (Big Z) are hard at it building new toilets, offices and doing general infrastructure.

A document fulfilling the required information for the National Performance Centre for England is about to be submitted to the BMC. If we are awarded the title we will be the first climbing centre in England to achieve it. The demands are long and the criteria is crucial but we think we have all the boxes ticked so fingers crossed!

Here are a few facts and figures for Awesome Walls Sheffield-

88,000 t-nuts will be used
176,000 staples to hold the t-nuts in place
£0 amount for your membership
760 people capacity
5th climbing centre in the family of Awesome Walls

3 dedicated bouldering areas

Hi Dave,

Have you finalised plans for the bouldering? ie type of bouldering, angles, how extensive and will there be any endurance bouldering circuits

Yes, and will you be re-employing Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich?

Sorry.

Hi Guys,

Three bouldering areas are planned- Area one will have friendly general angles (nothing to steep) but lots for everyone, 20m in length. Area two will be more of a training area with 30º and 45º boards, campus area, finger boards, pull up bars, dip stations, rings and the like. Area three will be on the top tier of the mezzanine, this will be predominantly steep roof climbing (5m roof).

Hope this helps,

Dave D.

How high is the lead wall?

The highest lead walls will be 15.5m. The main competition wall will be 23.5m in length. The average height of the walls in the lead area is 14m.

Can't wait, it sounds awesome! (Sorry)

Hope the 45 and 30 degree boards are going to be large (plenty of width and height)

"Area two"  :weakbench:

The name already has a good ring to it.

apart from the obvious difficulties that I'll have trying to string more than 3 moves together without getting pumped, I think all this new wood and plastic is going to be enough to get me doing some routes

I am particularly looking forward to having a childish giggle when I find the hold featured at the right hand end of the banner ad - the one that looks like those "toys" that Stallion promotes

this one
