Best editing suite for lap top.
February 01, 2013, 08:58:48 am
Okay - I've been trying to upgrade from windows movie maker for a while!  It does the trick, but takes bloody hours to save a two minute short ready for upload.

Is there any other free down loads that anyone is aware of?  All I need is the ability to put a couple of problems together, some slow motion, music - basic transitions.

Maybe it's the lap top, but I don't think so.  I'm hoping to do a 20 minute film from Swiss in a couple of weeks.

Help and and advice please.

Chris.

Bit dated now but you could us Prem Pro 2.0 for 'free'
http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html
Not sure if it will cope well with HD.

edit: according to this table http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Premiere_Pro#Release_history you should be ok. Scan down to 2006, (ignore Premiere 2.0, its Pro 2.0) HDV was supported from v1.5.1

Outputs might be limited.

I don't think Prem Pro can deal with HD until CS4 or 5 I think...

Okay - I get that to an extent.  I was made aware that the adobe was to large for a laptop to handle- I haven't got a proper computer so have not bothered with adobe.  Am I misinformed?

I loaded a two clips to movie maker today, put a bit of music on, and one clip disappeared after saving, leaving a shit vid.  That's my laptop for ya - I need something reliable in the current climate.

How old is your laptop? What's the spec? Considering CS2 was out in 2006 the spec required to run isn't going to be huge. It's not going to fly but should be ok. That or find a friend with a mac and iMovie.

If your camera does HD by default you can convert the AVCHD-formatted files into something that CS2 could understand by using a free program called SUPER by eRightSoft. A pretty powerful tool.

Not sure if your laptop will handle it, but have a look at lightworks. It's a full open source free movie editor.

Chris,

If you have / buy a laptop that is suitable, I have a copy of Adobe Creative Suite - Master Collection (i.e. everything) that I can post you.

Cheers

Lightworks (by Editshare) is a good suggestion but a bit of a b*tch to get used to if you've used anything else. There might be a few more tutorials out there now?

Lightroom by Adobe is essentially for photos although you can new view videos.
