Board sizes
December 30, 2012, 07:41:58 pm
Had a look around and found some stuff.

Whats everyones ideal size for a 45 board?

I have space to build a board thats 3m wide with 40cm gap either side to allow use of the sides for hooking. 45 the best angle as there is people that say 42 and some that say 50???

Help is great cheers and I shall keep you all posted and once its built come and climb

Personally I wouldn't bother leaving gaps at the sides.  Surely the point of a board is to get strong, not to practice heel hooking?

agreed, no heel hooks on the board, leave a gap one side to get behind if you weant to store stuff behind it. I would go for a 42 board if you have enough height, if you've got a low ceiling then go for 50

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how steep the woody at Broughton is?

(Sorry if this is  :offtopic:).

I'd estimate nearly 50.

Where on earth did 42 come from? Seems very specific. Mine is 45, with sides and a neb-like roof. I like these extra features; they keep the home sessions from stagnating, which on balance keeps me stronger, despite procrastinating with heels. If I could build it again I'd pitch the sides out at 15 degrees or so for some better compression.

I think the sides are useful for addidng toe'heel work and also to add pinches and other holds onto to give routes rather than just training stuff so I dont get bored to quickly.

So most say 45 and as high as can be.

I think 42 probably comes from slighly less than 45.
I've had a number of boards at all angles and for me personally the best ones were just less than 45

I built a door on hinges on my 45 degree so that I can use the full width of my narrow garage. It works well. It swings down and forward and can tie up at the front out of the way.
