slimline fingerboard recommendations
December 25, 2012, 10:00:08 pm
I'm considering buying a fingerboard which could discreetly sit above an archetrave and there are two which look decent...
Anyone used this:http://www.tcaclimbingshop.com/training/fingerboards/mini-hercules-fingerboard.html?

or this:http://crusherholds.co.uk/fingerboards/megarail-climbing-fingerboard?

Or even this: http://www.bananafingers.co.uk/snap-snapboard-p-1555.html?

The Crusher one looks good but the Climbing Academy looks like it has some smaller edges which would be a plus. Would be interested to know the depth of smaller pockets on the mini-hercules as the website doesn't include this information. Anyone used either who could comment? Thanks!

Hi there, some Mini Herc dimensions are:

Crimp rail is 10mm deep but well radius'd
Shallow monos are 25mm deep
Shallow 2 fingers are 25mm deep
Deep 2 and 4 fingers are 35mm deep
Deep monos are 40mm

Cheers, Paul

Hi Paul thanks for info.  Have you used it/manufactured it/got any thoughts on it? ...I'm actually thinking more of the Snap board as edges are on the smaller/slopier side and it seems to me it's just a question of using the number of fingers you want to train, sticking them in pocket shaped features seems neither here nor there to me.

I don't like the tca one - bit tweaky angles. Not used the others. I would always advise trying to feel one before you buy..

Megarail is very well made with a decent bit of wood. The holds feel very rounded and non-tweaky. Only consideration is that it is fairly beefy for a slimline board. Great value though!

Thanks.  Clearly well crafted, depth of edge seems fairly generous though.

We manufacture them at TCA and we have them up in both Bristol and Glasgow. A few other walls around the country have them too. As the other poster mentioned, it's always best to try something before you buy as different people are looking for different features and have different ideas about what they like and don't like - although as you state it's not always possible. We've sold well over 200 of these in the uk now and the design was tweaked slightly though feedback we gathered from the initial board. A recent review in Climber by Percy covered a number of training boards and that might be worth getting hold of if you can.
Cheers
Paul

Thanks.  Clearly well crafted, depth of edge seems fairly generous though.

the megarails hold sizes are...

Four Finger Edges - 20mm deep

Two Finger Pockets - 32mm & 25mm

Mono Pockets - 30mm & 20mm

... obviously depending how strong you are is the line in the sand, but personally I wouldnt put the megarails in the generous category. The monos and small 2 finger pockets take some hanging on to. 20mm is about the size of a standard small campus rung, if you were needing a comparison of how that depth would feel.

Thanks Probes looks like a good piece of kit. I've done a few repeaters on the small B-Maker 2K edges and they seemed pretty good for that hence interest in smaller size of holds. Thanks for all replies. Happy New Year to all  :)
