Xbox 360

This XBOX 360 has the E74 Error Currently.

Before I wrap my xbox in 5 or so towels, I was wondering if anyone has any interest in buying an Xbox 360 elite (original not slim) which currently has an error. I have a few of the older Halo games, PGR4 and a few others as well as a wired controller.

I'm not sure how much the repair cost is likely to be, people offer 'fixes' for £25-45 but these are really only temporary and it needs to go back to M$. It'd certainly be cheaper than buying a new console. Sadly its out of the 3 year warranty offered on this particular problem. I don't really have a need for it anymore as I find gaming just eats time where I could be more [un]productive elsewhere.

I'm open to offers.

E-bay. I've sold loads of broken electronic stuff on there and got really good prices for it.
Have you tried to fix the e74 error yourself, the amount of stuff I've fixed simply by cleaning the pcb is amazing

its a known fault where the circuit board warps under heat pulling it away from the GPU. You can get fix it kits from ebay but in reality it should be fixed via M$ (I don't think they actually charge very much) who put in a new design which doesn't have this problem.

My old 360 had this problem and an ebay fix kit gave it another few months of life before it finally gave up the ghost.  I think the kit was basically a bit of thermal paste, a clamp and some screws.

Thats pretty much what I understood about the 'fix' kits. I'm not keen to do a half-baked fix and sell it, that'd be pretty shit hence offering here if anyone wants to go the full Microsoft repair route (it looks like not).
