Wet weather sport venues in Pyrenees??
October 16, 2012, 10:21:19 am
Going out at the end of this week with a plan to climb at Cavallers. Unfortunately the forecast for the first 3 days looks apocalyptically fucking awful, so we need a plan B ASAP, i.e. crags that will stay dry in the rain, preferably with F6a-7a climbs available.

We'll be based in Le Pont De Suert and happy to drive a couple of hours to escape the storms. Recommendations for guidebooks also appreciated.

if you're not banned or it's too far beneath you it might be worth putting this up on the other side and waiting for Mr Arran to answer you. Assuming you don't get an answer here.

Fried I have posted on UKC too yes, not a vast amount of info forthcoming on there yet either.

I've heard that Rodellar could be good - anyone know about that??

Also anyone know anything about the French side which looks to be escaping the monsoon a bit??

Okay. That site was rubbish. Rockfax logbook is better.

I've climbed at Troubat, good crag, the grotto will stay dry whatever. Silence takes the left prow of the grotto and looks awesome (if you climb the grade, which I don't).  I can't remember which routes we did exactly. I think Leaving the World Behind is just outside the steepnesss of the cave on the right wall. It used to have a bank of halogen lights from the comp, they came on at dusk - and went off at midnight, as we found, three people leading at that moment! ;D ;D

Saint Pé d'Ardet is a good roadside crag, gently overhanging, I recommend secteur Canari and the route which gives the sector its name. And I can't remember much else. It was 1992, sorry.

There's actually a little roadside crag in Lourdes, south side I think, but rockfax doesn't have it on. Developed by Alain Fourtine years ago. Had a 7c and 8a on it, steep start, hard slabs above. Lourdes is like Blackpool but with little bottles of st Bernadette containing 'holy water' instead of plastic towers and sticks of rock. And more nuns, of course.

Where abouts in the pyranees is that?

Towards Perpignan, you have Vingrau (bit slabby though), Tautavel (fairly overhanging) and a few other places. There is even a pretty good wall in Perpignan if the weather really shits out ( by leclerc just out of perpignan on the road to narbonne).
