Legendary crag days
September 01, 2012, 02:08:25 pm
The Stanage HVS Challenge thread got me thinking about legendary crag days.

Well known ones that spring immeditely to mind are Moffat's big soloing days in the Pass and at Stoney listed in his book and Fawcett's 100 extremes on Grit.

Steve said his record at the tor was Mecca 5x and Ben's Roof 10x.

Didn't Andy Mitchell do the Triple Crown in a day running between the crags?

Alex Honnold's El Cap - Half Dome - Mt Watkins stroll must be fairly high on the list.

Think it was Tony Mitchell. Might be wrong though.

The day Ben Moon did Hubble as detailed in his online diaries sounds fairly legendary fitting several lifetime's worth of climbing into a few hours

Quote
“RT. Warmed up, fell on 3 once. Short rest, did Whore!! Felt tired. Worked out. Tried Mark’s route. Power Band, Blue Band, Chime’s with traverse and without. Failed on Rooster Booster, Sardine 3 times. Hard”

That’s a funny entry. I’ve just climbed the hardest route in the world, complain of being tired and then spend the rest of the day training. As mentioned before Mark’s route later became Make it Funky 8c and Power Band and Blue Band are two classic Peak limestone traverses, throw in the Weed Killer/Chimes of Freedom combination and you have quite a high volume of hard climbing.

The "triple crown" according to a recent issue of Viz is to simultaneously evacuate the contents of your stomach, bowel and bladder.

In the back of a taxi.
After a night on the pop.

Does anyone else still find Viz funny? I'm proud to say that I do. Unashamedly proud. However I have never achieved either of the "triple crowns" and there is only one I could ever hope to get anywhere near.
