Why wouldn't a website enable u to watch vids on an apple device when a third of the world has them?

Because 2/3rds don't (and even then thats being generous with proportions).

Jim's right, one day html5 might get sorted and be widely used for everything, until then you're stuck looking over others shoulders.

I fear html5 may be dead in the water.. Face ache re-wrote their iOS app from html5 to iOS native last month.. Twice as fast...

BBC iPlayer develop their own alternative to Flash media streaming

(which means you may soon be able to watch iPlayer on the iDevices, providing of course you are in the UK).

There's been an iPlayer app for yonks (standard SI unit of time). Works fine... In the UK.

Its either not official (i.e. not produced by the BBC) or if it is they've been developing two players in tandem and hopefully this will mean they can develop just one that works across all platforms (thus making the license fee go further).

For the record it's not just Apple - the lack of an iPlayer app that works out of the box with the Nexus7 is a bit of an own goal IMO...

The new (as of two weeks ago) iPlayer app for the iphone and ipad is superb. It now allows you to download programs and keep them for 30 days on your idevice.. you have to watch within 7 days once youve downloaded. Its great and its official.

Dense, if you're trying to get iplayer working O/seas you'll need to get a VPN set  up.. Its pretty easy and you should get it working via a google. Sometimes its a little slow via VPN (as it goes through an extra loop) but normally fine - and if you're downloading things - no problemo.

I think they were doing it in tandem for some reason. The fruit based version has been around while and was pretty good even before the recent update.

Just seems contradictory to say that you've 30 days to keep it but then have to watch it within 7 days first.  Unless someone else wants to watch it whats the point of the additional 23 days, most things don't get viewed twice or if they do the second viewing would usually be > 23 days after the first (but then I don't watch much TV and rarely watch films twice).

I believe it actually means...
You can keep it for 30 days.
But, you only have 7 days to finnish watching it, once you start.
And you can only watch it once.

Not aware of anywhere that you can buy films to keep permanently (other than ripping the disc yourself).

If you're using Google Play you can download them to your tablet using the "pin" option (as opposed to streaming them). Can only pass on second-hand advice but I'm told it can take a while so don't leave it to 5 mins before getting on a train!

Not sure how long you've got to watch it once it's on your device though.

Yup - that seems to be the norm. Most places want you to stream - a few allow you to download (iplayer site does now..).

Or get a love film account and rip off the DVD's and transfer accross to your tablet etc..

Anyone had any experience with one of these? Finding one is not enough on the house, and I only ever use ours for internet browsing and watching vimeo.

Or is there a good similar alternative for as far under 100 notes as possible.
