Venus in a Transit tomorrow
June 05, 2012, 10:02:58 am

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transit_of_Venus,_2012

If you can be bothered getting up at 4:15 or so and it's a clear sky.

Anyone know if a 0.9 ND filter is safe enough for viewing or is something darker required?

Usually, no its not safe. Few more variables in play this time since the sun will be low in the sky.

Official advice is no.

That's the other option. Looking at forecast for heavy rain all night and morning it may well be academic anyway.

I saw the thread title and assumed it was either

(a) the name of a problem

or, more interestingly,

(b) an announcement of a film about some DFBs in a campervan on a climbing trip. It should be.

Academic or just a soggy box?

The V in a T is coinciding with my wedding anniversary. What can that mean?  :-\

Goddess of Love - can only be a good thing.

I'm normally not opposed to a bit of soggy box, but not this kind.

Doubt it. Would need a huge turn-round from current "barely-talking" status. And the mother-in-law is in residence.

Still ... wife's name means "sun" in Japanese. Does seem laden with symbolism. Perhaps she is having an affair?  :-\

It could mean the mother in law is soon to be in transit???

Sounds more likely that's she's doing some dogging from the back of a transit van, when you're down the wall.

From a rare astronomic event to dogging mother in laws in less than one page.... Impressive by our low standards.  :)

"What's this Venus thing tomorrow ?"

"there's a UKB thread about it, Stu is an astronomer so have a look on there"

And we've now gone from Venus to Mercury.

Wherever next?

Typically cloudy, but I liked this setup and subsequent picture from someone on another forum I frequent...

Binoculars setup on tripod and one side blocked...

...projecting 4m onto...
