This was recommended as a good shoulder and core exercise. It certainly looks a good full body exercise. Any views?

 :-\

I can't watch the video at work but I imagine it's the sort of thing that has you weeping and dry-heaving after a set. If it makes you anywhere near as strong as the Turkish guys we were climbing with in October than I'm well up for them!

I've been looking into doing these too. I'm told one of the reasons they're good is that they move all joints through a full-ish range of motion, under load. Assuming you do one each side.

If you don't have weights to hand (the removals guys nicked mine. Somehow.) then try it with a nice full glass of water.

TGU's are a really good all-over strength conditioning and upper body flexibility exercise at heavier weights and also a great recovery exercise at high volume with a light weight.

I'm 75kg and have a 1RM TGU of 55kg..  I also often do 100 reps alternating each side using a 12kg kettlebell as a recovery session.

If I got up of a sofa like an englishman 100 times I'd count it as heavy workout

Tried the small woman one rep last night. For a laugh. I didn't get very far. The small woman in question couldn't stop laughing at the absurdity of it all and would just collapse out of her ball (and on to me) once I'd wrestled her into position.

FD you could 1 rep my small woman.   :strongbench:

I thought you had given up all this cross-/core/antagonist training nonsense as it just made you heavier and didn't help your climbing.  Why the change?

Did I say that?. I admit I keep changing my mind about how beneficial it is.  :devangel:

I did get a twinge in my back the other the day which reminded me of one of the good things it does. Another thing is that I'm now much better at putting weight through my feet on steep rock. Its also good for fat burning at a difficult time of year. My intention was to just do one session a week till end of February in prep for the Oak which has some burly moves and then ad hoc Bolton Complexes and maybe TGU's thereafter till next winter.

Do you thinks its nonsense?

Just an idea purely from a "I'd like to see that" point of view. Any chance of getting FD doing a 1RM turkish getup using Paul B on video?  ;D

With Paul's luck I'd probably drop him on his head and he'd be injured for a year...  Let's see if we can make it happen.  That was my PB mind so I'll have to work up to it.

A pair of y fronts and some moody lighting for the video (as per your avatar pic) is all we require......
