UKB FAT Club 2011
December 09, 2011, 09:14:33 am
As last year's winner I thought I should resurrect fat club to record our commitment to greed, gluttony and excess during the Christmas period.

So far this week I've had three Christmas lunches and one evening dinner party...

One xmas dinner so far although the food was so bad we didn't eat much. Think the turkey was that wafer shit they sell in the supermarket  :wank:. At least the wine was free and there was lots of it.  :beer2:

The servings were so small at the work do I went to last night that I'd probably lose weight if I ate it every week!

I'll be back in the U.K for 6 days at Christmas, and the priorities are getting some decent fish and chips, and a proper restaurant curry. Apart from that I'm doing to stuff myself with cheap turkey I imagine.

I did blow 50 notes on a bottle of Margaux for no apparent reason on Monday, it was harding going back to the Lidl cote du Rhone after that.

My mum sent me a pack of Heston's Puff Pastry Mince Pies with Pine Sugar. They rocked. The pine sugar was kinda bland but the mince was proper tangy.

I'm in charge of the TomTom extended family main Xmas meal this year... They have voted for slow cooked leg of Lamb, so I may be tapping a few folk up here for some recipes.. Personally I'm very happy as it means I'll be in the kitchen early and have to taste the alcohol that will inevitably have to be added to the meal as the day progresses :) having slaved over a slow cooking leg for all day I can then book my slumber post in front of the telly, burp, drink more and enter a pleasantly catatonic state.

Yesterday I had the outlaws Xmas meal, at the Narrow, and managed to swerve Turkey.. Works do on Friday and I've avoided the fowl option there too.. So this may end up being a Turkey free Xmas for me...

I am currently half way through my towns annual pre Xmas sausage and wine festival. Just come back for a bit of a tipsy siesta. Already had 2 bank holidays last week.

My personal favourite so far is the shredded pork loin preserved in lard with a touch of garlic and paprika. If that doesn't count for fat club i don't know what will. Deelicious.

The best bit is that the local council have a stall that are giving away free sausages and local wine, as well as the companies giving out freebies. I don't just mean one glass/sausage per person but you can eat your own weight in preserved meats and drink yourself silly on local brew for nowt.

This place has it's priorities right. Can't afford to pay the leccy bill, got over 30% unemployment, not paid public services for over 6 months ? Make everyone feel better with a free party  :icon_beerchug:

Quick kip and back to it. Last band due on at 3am  :pissed:

Xmas dinner and a volume ( "a volume" being an indeterminate amount) of red on friday night, then had to eat sufficient fried pork products to fel OK enough to surf saturday morning. Then Kids Xmas party after a large lunch yesterday, where i ate mostly crap. Made up for it partially by having just a small packet of Monster Munch for tea.

After Friday night's work xmas embarrassment (Lunch at Jamie's Italian at 3pm followed by continuous boozing till 3am...) Even double fired pork product in finest crispy Glasgow rolls, with copious brown sauce and maybe even some tattie scones, washed down a glass bottle of irn bru made absolutely no damn difference to the state of my hangover!!

I was literally laid out flat on the couch from 11 am to about 7pm when I finally thought it safe to drive to tesco!

Think I managed to redeem myself by getting up at 4:45 am on Sunday to go winter climbing in Glencoe. Struggling today though...

:agree: sounds amazing. Is it simply a case of sealing the meat and chucking the rest in?

yep... oh.. and 10 cloves of garlic, a massive sprig of thyme and 4 bay leaves.

dont boil it, put it in the oven the night before for 2.5 hrs.. and then on the day microwave it, saves the now gorged beans from destruction. weirdly this works best. great for a sunday eve cook fest as so to eat well in the week when working yr tits off and dont have time to cook winter food.

The sausages are best if in a toulouse type style.

from my childhood I've always loved the meat product that is a fray bentos steak and kidney pie. no else likes em, and my family hate kidney.

so, when missus went out for a curry with her mates I packed the kids off to bed to make a S&K pie of pies..

here we go:

500g of  chopped, fatty steak and an onion, sealed in pan, onions browned off well.... with a touch of colour on the meat.

remove meat, in same pan: 350g of filleted lambs kidney, gently fried in butter, sage and balsamic.

pan "cleaned" with 300ml of water,, then 5 tablespoons of lea and perrins, half a table spoon of bisto and and same of plain flour. 4 teaspoons of english mustard. heat through & stir++

chuck all in a flat pie dish.

closely put prebought sheet of puff pastry on mix & seal onto edges with butter.

low heat oven, intermittently painting milk on the top / foil to stop it burning... about 90 mins.

damn, that was good!
