A number of major changes will be made to the BMC Youth Climbing Series in 2012. Additionally the dates for next year's Series have been announced.

Important Changes for 2012
At a meeting of the BMC Area Youth Coordinators (AYCs) on 8th October 2011 it was decided that the BMC Youth Climbing Series in 2012 will follow the international 2 year age categories for boys and girls used by the IFSC, instead of the previous 3 year age categories.

It was also decided that there will be 5 such categories, instead of the previous 3.

The categories will follow the IFSC system and be based on year of birth.  The categories will be called Youth A, B, C, D and E.

So, in 2012 the categories will be as follows:

Youth A - those born in 1995 & 1996
Youth B – those born in 1997 & 1998
Youth C – those born in 1999 & 2000
Youth D – those born in 2001 & 2002
Youth E - those born in 2003 & 2004

In categories A and B routes will be led. In all other categories they will be top roped.

Dates for 2012

Regional Rounds
Round 1 - 25th February
Round 2 - 17th March
Round 3 - 21st April

British Final - 23rd June

The three rounds are run regionally, so all young climbers wanting to take part should not have to travel too far.

To be eligible to compete in the British Final it is necessary to take part in at least two regional rounds.

The 2011 series was very popular, with over 600 young people taking part, with a great Final at Wolf Mountain Climbing Centre in Wolverhampton.

Now that the dates have been announced, venues will be organised next.

Once the venues have been organised, application forms will then be made available online at the BMC website.
