Ukb DH uplift- Moelfre
September 08, 2011, 09:40:04 pm
I've booked the moelfre uplift for the 25th of this month. Moelfre is about 2hrs from she'd on the other side of Oswestry. Great little course that's fairly mellow and good fun. One trailer takes 25, 300 nicker for the day divied up tween the riders. I've already got a list of people but some spaces are available. Holler up if your interested, last hurrah of the season b4 grit bouldering and muddy xc.
It's also my birthday!!!!
It's also amazingly beautiful!!!
What more do you want

OK...

I'm going, will use / take a goPro & a vio.

very easy track to video... cool!!

never ridden it myself yet... handmade by the Athertons to train on fast ( not tech braking) DH before they could afford to live abroad all winter..

The lads local I know that were where there last month say it's a s fast as you want it to be.... cheap too.

lets have it.... there is nothing like a uplift day with a big group of mates... it just works, no pressures, loads of fun and shit loads of piss taking...

end of the year  DH MTB for me too... gonna be special.

Would've loved to join you guys, but I'm tied up that day.

Have a nice Nomad I'm putting together currently - will have to drag it up north sometime next year!

If I'm back I will be up for it. Andorra closes tomorrow and then I either head home or to Austria. Will know next week. Are there many places left?

Just to confirm, this is a good, fast track with nothing really gnarly on it at all - no mandatory drops/jumps or rock/root gardens.

You could probably enjoy it without a full-on DH rig, in fact last time we were there there was a guy on a hardtail. He was very good though.

The track starts at the top of Gyrn Moelfre (523m) with great views of the surrounding area: - you can clearly see both the uplift track and the DH track from that link and if you zoom in enough you'll see there's actually an uplift in progress with a load of riders at the top and some on the track :)

OK,

travel arrangements time.

FBSF & I have been having a chat...

Bubba, Stom ( plz PM me yr mobile dude, you don't need to drive over on yr own) & fatkid2000 are in my van... 4 people.. probably 5 bikes  - I like to take two - .

FBSF takes the others from shelf.

If demand exceeds supply I'll forego the extra bike /  or use the bike rack. my van can take 6.

it's 2 hours from shelf, easy for an uplift of national regarded quality.

I'll bring a go Pro, and share it being used.. will make for a quality bit of video no doubt, usually does.

As for bubba's post above, i intend to be using a 34lb 160mm full susser, not my 200mm DH rig - so if you have a working AM bike you'll be fine.

Spaces people....

Directions if anyone needs them:

Moelfre Hall
Moelfre
SY10 7QJ
Just 15minutes West of Oswestry near Llansilin.

OS: SJ 189 283

I recommend you put Llansilin into your SatNav rather than SY10 7QJ for directions to the track. The postcode takes you to a slightly different address, though every close. Please note that there are several Moelfre’s in Wales and you will need the one close to Oswestry – If the Moelfre you have found is more than 15 minutes from Oswestry then you have found the wrong one.

Once you arrrive in Llansilin:
- Take the first right by the 4x4 garage and then first right again, signposted Moelfre.
- Follow this road until you come to your first right turn in the dip signposted Moelfre.
- Follow this road (past the white house on your left) and to the first farm on your right. This is the venue.
- Follow the farm track and park up on the track or in the field to the right of the track (stream/gully on left of track).
- Please try to avoid shredding up the grass and respect the farmers land.

There will be drinking water on site, public toilets are in the village and there is a good pub in the village offering good value food and beers – This pub is called the Wynnstay.  Please note there is no local shop so you need to bring with you whatever you need for the day or the weekend.  The closest places to get food will be the supermarkets in Oswestry.

If so and if there is any room in a van from sheff that would be awesome. pretty fucked off with driving after a 36 hour marathon.

It'll be fine, it's just a gravel track up the side of a field, not that steep or anything.

 I agree..

previewed the gopro stuff... loads of mud ruined runs.. but enough to make one whole run & a rather fun edit.

will take me a bit to edit 2 Gb of files...

BTW... how much kit did we actually trash?? for an easy course it was at least

5 tubes, one rear brake, one front hub bearing set, one fork seal, one chain & what elsee???

Stom will fix the  front hub bearings... cheers dude!!

video on the way.

this place is an ideal venue for those of all skill bases...

again for sure!

Now I may stand to be corrected - but wasn't most of the broken kit Fatdoc's and he didn't break it himself.

I really enjoyed it despite being the slowest & a good way to miss the Mother-in-law, who finally left when I dumped my bike in the kitchen.

Thanks to the doc for driving as always.
