Cleaner Shrimp Beta....
September 07, 2011, 11:32:43 pm
Yo,
was birthday today so took the day off work and went to alton towers with the family.  Awesome time was had and whilst there went into the aquarium whereup (amongst other cool things like japaneze spider crabs) there were some cleaner shrimp.

We were encouraged to put our hands in the shallow tank and the shrimp wander along your fingers picking off the dead skin.  Pretty wierd but painless and awesome experience.  and hey presto no loose skin to start splits and other such climbing skin complaints.  Became really encuraged to get some for the home.  Anyone else tried them?  cool little creatures.

Cheers
Tim

They are salt water animals, so keeing them at home would involve all the hassles that entails...

you'd be better off getting some Garra Rufa - fresh water, easy to keep.

Or even easier find your nearest "fish pedicure" salon and ask if you can have a fish manicure instead

ok i was lead to believe that it was quite easy and cheapish to look after them, however my brother was rather enthusiastic about the idea. :) did notice the water was really quite warm so guess a heater at least would be involved.

Cheers

Incidentally (blatant profiteering here) I've got a 5ft fishtank for sale with stand etc. I actually think you should definitely go for it and get a marine tank setup!  :devil-smiley:

yeah, i went to one of these in Malaysia. They're wierd, but quite effective for preening gnarled climbing feet. Didn't try the hands option though.
