Fingerboarding - How to warm up??
July 29, 2011, 06:18:27 pm
Just got myself a beastmaker 2000 and loving it :great: !!! I'm currently mostly concentrating on max dead hangs but finding warming up very time consuming and tedious...

Could any offer any advice on some exercises to get my fingers warm? And how long/ at what point can I start pulling hard after starting to warm up?
Any advice greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Mike.

Dan Varian / Carlisle Slapper has some great advice  here

Also it seems to take longer to warm-up for any type of session if preceded by a rest day or two.

warm ups are tedious indeed. it's the price we have to pay to be able to pull hard. anyway, i use to warm up my shoulders with a theraband, then start from the 20s and the good rungs. i do 10 secs on each for 6 times. then the 35s then the good pockets. just before starting the sets i do some of the hangs I'm going to do later but for just one or two secs. when i start usually the first set is a bit weak then i improve.

recently I've been using this Tommy Caldwell inspired routine to start my sessions:

5 mins something aerobic, exercise bike

Then with gusto:

5 pull ups
10 press ups
15 sit ups

repeat until exhausted

It took a few sessions to actually be able to do anything at all afterwards, but it seems to warm everything up pretty well and it has the added bonus of reinvigorating you after a day at work. It hasn't yet failed to clear my "Can't be arsed"ness

Tommy gave me a great tip for warming the fingers for a board session...

Basically you get a 1st joint edge with both hands then do sets of 20 little jumping (bouncing off the floor) pullups taking as much or little weight as you feel capable of. Have a brew then repeat. Seems to warm the entire body and the fingers.

Best done on your own board as you do look a bit silly :bounce:

:D
