Friends of the Peak District - Take Back the Tracks Rally

On Saturday the 9th July 2011, Friends of the Peak District will be holding a rally to highlight the problems caused by off-roading within the Peak District National Park, and the solutions. The rally is taking place before the National Park Authority reviews their policy on the 15th of July, and a strong message from the rally will put further pressure on the Authority to take tougher action.

The rally will take place on the Long Causeway at Stanage Edge. This route is in a particularly sensitive and iconic location, and its use by vehicles has caused significant damage to the surface, as well disturbance in this tranquil location. Two Groups will meet at Stanage Pole at 1pm, one will start at Dennis Knoll (below Stanage Edge in Derbyshire), the other from Redmires Reservoir (on the very edge of Sheffield). At the Pole there will be brief speeches and an opportunity to have a picnic, after which walkers are free to enjoy the views as they make their own way home.

Locations and Start Times

Dennis Knoll (Grid Reference: 227 843) - 12.00 pm

Redmires Reservoir (Grid Reference: 256 851) – 12.20 pm

Stanage Pole (Grid Reference: 247 844) – 1.00 pm

The rally will end at Stanage Edge after the short speeches.

Getting to the Start Points

At Dennis Knoll, due to the restrictions on parking (it can accommodate only 6 vehicles), walkers are encouraged to use the Plantation Car Park (Grid Reference: 237 837) which is approximately a mile to the east, or if possible incorporate the rally into wider Stanage Edge walk. Parking on the verges in the vicinity should be avoided.

From Redmires, there is a car park at the reservoir (Grid Reference: 256 857) and also on at Wyming Brook (Grid Reference: 269 858). Alternatively there is a regular bus service which runs from Charnock, via the Sheffield City Centre and it will take you to the edge of Lodge Moor. The number 51 bus arrives there at 11.13 and 11.45. Allow plenty of time to walk to the start point at 12.20.

be carefull what they protest about... either protest about the damage to the road, or protest about the other people using the road...

trying to be passive aggressive will only lead to them resurfacing the road into a motorway...

again...

and we all know how much we all benefited from that!
