Beastmaker training app (for android)
June 09, 2011, 08:56:08 pm
Ive been lurking round these forums for a while now, so thought maybe i should throw a post down instead of only looking for deals on the cheap shoes thread and getting my head around how some people on here can do one armers on the 35's. Anyway i found a dencent interval timer for android (not mine!), just searched for beastmaker and it came up, seems like not many people know about it so thought i'd share. anyway hello, are there any south wales based boulderers on here?

I'm not from South Wales, don't own an android and certainly can't one-arm the 35s but :icon_welcome:

Thought this worth resurrecting for the Android beastmaker training app. that Jasper highlighted.

Is there anything similar for non-smartphone users?  Online or downloadable, windows or mac.

Good find, looks pretty useful. I'm almost South Wales based, Newent, near Ross, but have spent a bit of time at Dinas and a lot at Huntsham, possibly the best crag in the world!

Hadn't thought to look, I use the Impetus app which I favour over the Beastmaker one, but a quick search threw up this:

http://www.wodtimer.com/desktop.php

Just installed it and it looks ok.

I use RoundTimerX for interval training on my beastmaker. It's J2ME so it works on most phones.

That's fine Chris but I find that by using an interval timer you can zone out and train while watching TV or listening to music without having to think about how long you've been hanging or what round you're on. This tends to lead to a longer, more effective and less tedious session.

I'm a metronome man myself. Plus then you can see how long people will believe that you're playing minimal techno.

Maybe. Mine hangs in the utility room, and the only music I have in there is a shitty old ghetto blaster that only plays FM, so watching the second hand on the clock move is actually quite interesting when you are listening to Radio 1 or Northsound.

Phone/MP3 player with headphones (if the former is a smartphone you could even stream mp3's over your wireless network)?

I've just tried using this and I think I prefer the good old clock, mainly because I still wound up counting the seconds in my head anyway to keep track of how long I had to go. Also being able to focus on the clock distracts me from the pump and pain, rather than suffer it in silence, (and the beeper is way too annoying.)

Ah, but did you have a film/video playing to distract your attention from counting and force you to rely on the beeps?

Just personal preference I suppose but I used the Beastmaker app for the first time on Saturday and found it WAY better than stopwatch / clock / counting etc.

Really like not having to count and just waiting for the beeps as psychologically for me the hanging time seemed to go way quicker!

I know. Not risking a post on YYFY yet but nothing twanged, snapped or cracked either. I wasn't even *that* weak.

That's why the app's so useful. The counting gets difficult after the third can.

Can't speak for the BM folk but ive been trailing it on iOS for the last 4 weeks or so.. It's good - simple, effective and useful.

Any one else tried the Climb Coach app on iOS? I've been using for a while and although it only ahas a few workouts at the moment its a nice app, good video explainations and a clear timer. Can also track wall ticks, but I think that functionality needs some improvement.
