Anybody else getting fed up with firefox, I recon its the browser of choice for UKB? Have found the new 4 version to be really slow and have been using opera on the netbook and thinking about ditching ff on the desktop too

I had enough at work a month or two ago and am on safari now. Much quicker. Though still on firefox at home, for the timebeing.

Don't have a problem with it running 30 extensions and usually have 2 windows with 25 tabs between them open.

Use it for dev work but it's always had a horrible UI. Use Safari day-to-day :)

Started using Chrome more often as it works better with google docs (funnily enough) but ff seems fine to me...

I'm not a fan of version 4. Doesn't seem as good as previous versions and it no longer asks me if I want to save tabs when I close it (which I use a lot!).

Use this extension - works flawlessly: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/session-manager/

Ditto, got  fed up with FF constantly asking me to update everytime I booted it. Chrome updates in the background. Also IE9 is pretty fast (although only got it on my new speed machine)

Excellent, thank you! I knew there would be a way, but hadn't actually looked yet.

There's always continual version bumps anyway, its only when the changes are considered "considerable" that instead of going 3.6.16 > 3.6.17 > 3.6.18 > 4.0 > 4.0.1 > 5.0.

It's probably me being stupid but when I use Hotmail with Chrome it only seems to keep cookies for one user. So after the missus has checked her Email I have to reenter my username.

I'm sure I can change a setting somewhere, but where....

I have no idea, nobody else really uses my computer so I haven't noticed it, I bet you can change it somewhere but like you say, who knows where that is? :)

I'll just ban the missus from using the computer. Another problem solved. :smart:

Or you could set her up with her own account and set your screensaver to lock the screen when you're away from it.  If she comes along she'll then have to log in under her own user account.

Firefox has moved to a time-based release model instead of a feature-driven one, so expect a new major version every few months.

Firefox 6 is due for release on 16th August, Firefox 7 sometime in 2011 Q3.

It does if you install this and restart twice  - just in case anyone else needs it

In most instances (in my experience) you can trick new versions of Firefox to work with plugins by changing the code in the plugin for the version it works with.  If anyone wants to know how to do this ask me (or Tomtom!)

(Tentatively) Is it just one line of code ? (Fears crossing line after which there is no return)
