Aberdeen this summer
May 13, 2011, 11:49:02 am
Looks like I'm going to be in Aberdeen for three months this summer- Apart from SA Chris, who will no doubt be knee deep in nappies, is there anyone else on here who boulders in Aberdeen? Is there much sport climbing to be had? I heard rumours (or remember seeing a picture or something) of DWS. Is this any good? It's hardly the Med but it might be the focus I need to stop me falling off!

EDIT: Where's the wall and what's it like? Any woodies?

No, thank god, working on Seismic data.

I'd also appreciate some problem recommendations from font 1 up to 7C (or maybe even 7C+!) The Aberdonian SS looks good. Any others?

Don't fret, I'll plug you into the loop if I'm not available. Only calf deep at the moment fortunately. Get a wetty if you fancy DWS, not sure if any of mine will fit you. Craig Stirling is the most popular spot for DWS, but there are details of other spots in the NE Outcrops guide. And some more esoteric spots I can show you ;). Transition is a good place to hook up with people too. Just don't go claiming out of date projects with attempted controversial names again :)

Good sport climbing is a bit thin on the ground, but there are some good routes to keep you busy.

Tom (coolboy) is a good contact too.

So who you working for?

What months will you be here? Hopefully midge season won't be too bad and you can get out west for a couple of weekends. Luckily they aren't that bad on the east coast.

You still in touch with John H? He's had a sprog too, not sure if he's climbing much.

John H! I was thinking of him the other day, not seen or heard from him in years and years! I'll be here from (possibly as soon as next Tuesday) the next week or two until mid-late August. Working for ConocoPhillips.

Not in mid summer it isn't! Might be a few swells coming through, but there are plenty of friendlier spots a lot closer.

Got John's details if you want to get in touch, know his lass very well.

They sorting you out a place to live?

Get thee down to ClashFarquar.

Sport climbing is Longhaven Red Wall Quarry, some schist micro-gash in various places, and the bloody Angus quarries some of which are okay.

Good news is the Aberdeen scene seems to be the most welcoming in Scotland, and the weather and midges are okay.

Hi Andy - I'm a regular visitor during the week.  I'm usually working long days or seeing colleagues/clients in the evenings but sometimes manage to scrape the odd visit to the wall or even outside in May and June.

Good effort on getting the a project sorted, once you're in, you're in.

I hope so!

Get thee down to ClashFarquar.

I plan on doing so, it looks pretty good!

Cheers, barring any major fuck-ups I think I should be! GGive me a shout if you're available for an evening's bouldering.

What FD said. Good break - chance to shine. His board is gathering dust in my garage if you fancy getting in the water and having a go. And he doesn't mind of course.

I either pmed or emailed my details to you?

Yeah, I just read that, it got sent to my account that I don't check as much! Cheers for that. As for surfing, well, I might give it a go... But I doubt it. I'm a pussy when it comes to cold water.

Set your UKB account to give you notification when you receive new messages rather than relying on things going to email address' that you don't use (in fact you can turn off email notifications if you do this).

Profile -> Account Settings -> Personal Messaging

Change "Notify by email every time you receive a personal message:" to "Never" and then check the tick-box for "Notify by email every time you receive a personal message:"

 ;)

It was an e-mail. I'm well aware of how to correspond via the internet.
