J Mascis, Several Shades of Why

Just bought the new J Mascis album and it's great. Strongly recommended if you like Dinosaur Jr. And who doesn't?

A couple of tracks here.

Was wondering about this last night - might go for it now.

Love Joe Mascis, was a mega Dinosaur Jr fan as a kid, saw them live late last year at the Liverpool O2, nearly creamed myself. Buy it!

Nice, I loved the last Dinosaur Jr album, even when I had the early badly mixed version!

Duly bought. Only listened to a couple of tracks, but sounds good. As ever, it probably requires a willingness to appreciate the fine points of J's 'singing'.

I liked the acoustic live at CBGBs. The vocal style may well be, as you say, an acquired taste however.

Tell me you ever listened to Dinosaur Jr and particularly loved them for the 'singing'!

I actually really like his whiny croak - it's very soulful and fits perfexctly with his/the D Jr sound.

I thought the last two albums were fantastic - great to see one of my favourite artists still remaining vital in later life. Inspiring stuff!

I agree Si, I think my point was that really, its all about the whole sound, which wouldn't be right without j's vocal style, but equally that style would never make it in a 'top 10 male vocalists' poll if judged purely for singing
