Peak Monday?
December 19, 2010, 04:53:54 pm
Having got some pass out credits in the bank with a 3 hour session at the Trafford Centre today (could have been worse) I'm planning to get out to the Peak tomorrow AM (10:30>11ish) not that fussed where as long as access is OK. Default may be Curbar... Anyone about/interested?

Well the added friction will probably mean that Strawberries will be somewhere about what ever grade you are currently quoting for it...  ;)

I've just been granted a pass too so will be heading out about the same time.  Trackside doesn't really appeal though I'm afraid, is that what you meant by Curbar, tomtom?

Name a crag and there will be a project or ten littering it - I have projects every-bloody-where!!  :-[ As long as it has stuff in the 5-6 range I am sure I can keep myself (and fellow boulderers) amused.

Nai? Any prefs? are you working something at Burbage? I'd quite like to look at West Side Story...

I was out at Burbage North today and there's still snow / frost on the tops of nearly everything. Although I couldn't see Burbage West through the mist I'd be surprised if there was much in condition there. It was also incredibly cold and very hard to stay warm between attempts on stuff. I spent Sunday afternoon at Birchen which definitely seemed warmer than Burbage.

Cratcliffe / RHS area might be a better bet (but don't take my word for it).

Cheers for the heads up Chris. I'm coming over from West (Manc) so RHS/Cratcliff's may be a wee bit further than I'd like to travel (I think... guides in the car)... any suggestions?

The Climbing Works?

The Eastern Edges thread suggests that Froggatt's in condition. Trackside should also be OK - Nai if you're not psyched for the trackside boulder there's always Sean's arete on the main edge. Well worth the walk up and bound to be snow free. One of the best problems in the peak.

If you go to Froggatt it's well worth walking to the far end of Curbar (the end nearest to Froggatt if you see what I mean) for The Art of White Hat Wearing, another awesome problem. Similar in style to WSS but a bit easier - Font 7b?

Birchen isn't that much further to drive to than Curbar (although with a slightly longer walk in). If you can get hold of a copy of the BMC definitive guide there's quite a lot of bouldering to go at that should suit all tastes and abilities. All of it was in condition today.

Wherever you end up have a good day out.

Good advice there Chris...
Right - seeing as 1. Froggatt is in and 2. I've never bouldered there (just roped stuff..) then Froggatt it is..
I'll aim to be there for c.11 - pinnacle boulders > joes slab area (I went and got my guide..)..

 :) Tom

Secret garden in pretty good nick today.  Bits of ice along the tops of Zaf's and a couple of other things.  Beach ball and dick williams etc all looked fine.  Zaf's was climbable just a little bit more awkward to top out.

Been out at curbar this morning. Everything looked in good nick, if you can handle the cold -10. Any ice around was so cold could easily be brushed off.

Great day out at Froggatt - good to meet you Butters  and to see you again Nai. Conditions were cold - Car said -11.5 when I left it and -10 when I got back in.. but fine once you warmed up - cold feet was my only problem! We mainly just played around the Joes slab/arete area and a bit on the pinnacle at the end. Chuffed to get the direct start to Downhill Racer done! Remember swinging about on a top rope on that last time I was there c.15 years ago.. (dont tell UKC about the top rope!).

Nice pics tomtom, I'm missing my 10-20 already, only got one half decent one, looks like bouldering in Siberia

And one of the wound, not that bad after all.

Good to see you again, might well pop out again on Wed if you're free.

nai - PM will be sent

Just posted on the peak conditions report re: trackside but as an additional bonus for readers of both topics I can faithfully report that the grass to the LHS of Trackside is a complete bastard to try and walk\slide\ignominiously fall down on your arse while wearing climbing shoes.  :-[
