fingerboard warm up
December 15, 2010, 11:39:26 am
Heading to my parents over Christmas and looking to continue training but I will only have access to a fingerboard.  At home I normally warm up on my woodie and then hit the fingerboard so I am after some good warm up routines with access only to a fingerboard…..

I do general pulse-raising stuff then with my heels on the floor, perhaps a metre back underneath the finger board, move from hold to hold on the board for a few minutes. Then some easy hangs on the big holds.

Yep I usually start with press-ups and pull-ups, then do 3 sets of 30 hand moves with foot on a toolbbox (no appropriate chair available) and then do some repeaters on easy holds. I also try to keep massaging my fingers fairly vigerously to get blood circulating.

Dan Varian makes some suggestions here

Only thing I would add is that I've taken to doing dwarf press-ups as a way of giving the elbows a low-impact workout

Stretches/ a few press ups etc.. (probably usual stuff) but then I put the back of a chair c.2-3 ft away from the board and basically do a load of fingerboard work with feet on. Then when warmed up crack on. You can of course put the chair closer or further away to increase/decrease the load on the fingers...

 cheers for your routines!  I like the idea of moves between holds with feet on chair/tool box.  I'll have to check over the fixings to make sure it will accommodate all that extra weight from Christmas food and beer  :beer1:

Also, dont underestimate moving feet (e.g. on chair from top <> bottom etc..) whilst hanging - this works core and arms as weight shifts etc..
