fingerboard warm up
December 15, 2010, 11:39:26 am
Heading to my parents over Christmas and looking to continue training but I will only have access to a fingerboard. At home I normally warm up on my woodie and then hit the fingerboard so I am after some good warm up routines with access only to a fingerboard…..

I do general pulse-raising stuff then with my heels on the floor, perhaps a metre back underneath the finger board, move from hold to hold on the board for a few minutes. Then some easy hangs on the big holds.

Yep I usually start with press-ups and pull-ups, then do 3 sets of 30 hand moves with foot on a toolbbox (no appropriate chair available) and then do some repeaters on easy holds. I also try to keep massaging my fingers fairly vigerously to get blood circulating.

Dan Varian makes some suggestions
here
Only thing I would add is that I've taken to doing
dwarf press-ups
as a way of giving the elbows a low-impact workout

Stretches/ a few press ups etc.. (probably usual stuff) but then I put the back of a chair c.2-3 ft away from the board and basically do a load of fingerboard work with feet on. Then when warmed up crack on. You can of course put the chair closer or further away to increase/decrease the load on the fingers...

cheers for your routines! I like the idea of moves between holds with feet on chair/tool box. I'll have to check over the fixings to make sure it will accommodate all that extra weight from Christmas food and beer

Also, dont underestimate moving feet (e.g. on chair from top <> bottom etc..) whilst hanging - this works core and arms as weight shifts etc..
