Your train is late because . . . .

Well according to Northern Rail our train back from Manchester was delayed because of the 'wrong sort of water'  is there some heavy water around Bamford that we really ought not to drink?

When the ridicule got a little much they added, well there's also the incline and the weather did change too . . .

So what next the Hope Valley furnicular?

Or more likely we'll just get more shit trains and a shit service.

Can anyone better the steaming pile of BS that we were presented with this evening?

No, but I commuted between Sheffield and Manchester for five and a half years and the line did flood on more than one occasion each year, so thats probably what they were referring to (after all it is pretty flat really so traction shouldn't be a problem).  I think its something to do with electricity and water not mixing too well, but don't know the finer details.

Yeah, but Andi E's mum loves an euphemism.

No there were no floods and we've been ok when there were large amounts of standing water.  If there were real floods than fine but this was about as damp as wet rag.

I gave up listening to the excuses, the train was either late or not.  If the former it provided more time to get ripped off in the station bar.

The privatisation of rail was a good example of dogma and wishful thinking overcoming common sense; in short, a bad idea, badly executed.

Having said that our train is often a 1970's design intended to be as cheap as possible and built with BL bus parts. . . .

Actually badgers are the most common cause of Electric current isolations (which stop electric trains) I can say this with absolute certainty as Mrs Sloper once worked (ok was a highly paid consultant who did fuck all squared) for Railtrack.

Note if I don't post within the next week send out a rescue party, i'll be gaffer taped to the wine under the stairs
