Recommend me a chalk bag..
August 17, 2010, 10:12:38 am
Wanting to splash out for an upcoming trip to Font..

Am after a bouldering chalk bag/bucket that is large enough for a few people, can stand on it's own and can be closed properly so the chalk doesn't go in my pain au chocolat  ;D

Something like this maybe?

I like my 'hand made by Drew' one but seem to remember you being far from impressed with it he other day :-) go retro and half fill a plastic bag with chalk :-)

They seem very popular, and with good reason. They don't leak, and stand up solid on the ground. Pretty cheap also. Does get confusing at the crag though, everyone has yellow!

Yep I'd go for one of those, I have the deluxe version  8) (only because I got it 2nd hand) but the roll-top closure of the one you have linked looks better.

You can get Beal ones in Decathlon for not much money. Might be worth a look.

How do you climb together if you're all using the same chalk bag?

Ah wait, hang on, Jasper showed us the way just the other day:P

:-\ you're inner pedant is a little slow today Slackers - I never said we climbed 'together'  :kiss1:

But I suspect you're using this as a tag to take the piss out of Jasper - which is of course fine  ;D

Actually thought it was pretty good (liked the roll up feature) but can't seem to find them on Drew's site or his Ebay shop - he only seems to sell the chuffing variety?

http://www.climblox.com/#/chalk-buckets/4537473327

they close with magnets  ;D
Although the magnets do kind of appeal to my geeky side, I'm not sure that they would work any better than a draw cord - unless you can persuade me otherwise? (plus the designs are a bit boring to say the least  ;D)

Cheers Chris - will take a gander in the next few days hopefully.

Anyone tried these Edelrid ones? They look a bit funky (some had sponge shit going on inside)...

I've got one of the Elderid ones. So far its proved itself to be very good and the closure system is excellent. Its probably the first bag I've that really doesn't leak no matter what the blurb says. The foam thing is a bit weird but works ok although it does take up valuable chalk space.

:-[  Try giving him a call/email - as they are hand made after all - to custom order if need be! I think mine was called a volcano shape or something like that...

PS - the £5.99 large bags of lumpy CAMP chalk are back in stock in Decathlon in Stockport for those afficianado's..

The REAL Drew posts on here sometimes, so might stumble across this thread at some point himself.

Thanks FAKE Drew - I was referring to the fact that they are called 'Hand Made Volcano Bouldering Bucket' as per your link..

Although cheetah is not really me...

Maybe Drewski will make me a nice Giraffe one instead  ;D

I've got one of these.  Initially splendid, no doubt.  Despite the fact that it looks like a handbag when closed, but a manly toolbox  when open.

However, it's now a bit fucked.  The zipper is coming apart a little (where it attaches to the bag), and sticks a bit when things get proper chalky.

So... I'd skip.  Good in that it has lots of pockets, stands on it's own well, and makes a large target to put your foot in by accident when you bail off oddly.  But the zip is a shit idea long term.

Two of my younger counsins climb and I bought one of them the gorilla chalk bag from drew (I can't find it on his website). It is the shizzle.

OCD! OCD! OCD!

Drew's chalkbags are the mutt's nuts. Some are even literally mutts. Well made, personal, well designed and great value for money. He's making loads at the moment and shipping them all over the world which proves just how good they are!

Hi,
finally got round to replying to this thread, been away (surfing in Cornwall....Shamoh!) for a few weeks and then have been busy beavering away on the order backLOG.
Thanks for the nice things that have been said about the chalkbags (the cheque's in the post Andi).
@ Tris- I've not made any Volcano style ones for probably 2 years no, so that link above is some old stock from a previous distributor.
If you do want a Moon style one I do make them, but I don't put them on the website...Any type of fabric, almost any type of embroidery/image/text (copyright willing).
I do a few odd bags too....
