Changing foam on a Moon Saturn
July 06, 2010, 01:12:20 pm
My Saturn is getting on a bit and the foam in the middle (where the mat bends) is pretty soft now.

Moon offer the foam on its own at £100.

Has anyone had experience of changing the foam in a pad? Do you reckon it is worth doing?

I guess it all depends on if the cover is in a worthy state?

Might be cheaper getting the foam from Alpkit.

The cover is pretty decent, dirty but no rips or holes.

Might be cheaper getting the foam from Alpkit.

Don't think it will fit very well in the Saturn.

I thought Alpkit would cut it to size?

I just changed my Saturn foam on Tuesday after getting a new replacement set from Moon.

It was easy to strip out the old foam and get the open cell foam in but a proper mare to get the closed cell in on top. This was due to it's combined thickness being a lot greater than the old ruined 3 year old foam it was replacing!

Had to call in a 2nd pair of hands to fight it in but now its ready to rumble for some highball death

if you put the new foam in (both layers at once) folded in the opposite direction to how it will fold in the mat, push it all the way in then let it flatten itself in situ it is a very quick job. was a two person job to close the zip but now everything is in place and the mat is as good as new.

Don't suppose anyone knows where one might procure some replacement Franklin Drop Zone (the original one) foam?

Have already replaced it but considering restuffing it as a backup.
